No, it’s not a joke. The 28th really is the last day of February. Remember? It happens every year… well every three years and then… anyway, you get the point. OK, it’s the end of the month and you need your spirits lifting… What better place to be than at the 88 Lounge Comedy night?
Chris Forrest’s face is easily recognisable from the Sasol Ad campaign where he played “Coach Joe”. Chris is an established and talented regular on the South African heavyweight comedy circuit. His witty and cynical one-line humour is thought provoking and to the point. Totally nerdish and unflappable, his Drew Carey looks and slowed-up delivery has ensured that audiences take to him enthusiastically. Chris is also hot off the Edinburgh Fringe where he appeared in “Free South African Comedians”.
Conrad, for those not familiar with his work, is reinventing the art of ventriloquism and serving it up in his utterly unique, wacky, and madly funny way. As the only ventriloquist currently working South Africa’s comedy circuit he is something of an exception. In short it is ventriloquism meeting stand up comedy – awake, alive, intelligent and completely crazy!
David Kibuuka won the amateur category of 2003’s Freshest Five Comedy Competition, held at the Newtown Music Hall. He may be new on the scene, but this actor / stock broker is as promising as they come. In a time when black is certainly beautiful, this funny man knows what is really hysterical and puts it across with eloquence and charm. He was an integral part of The Pure Monate Show and now performs country wide.
With his shape that he describes as “genetically Italian”, and a mop of curly hair that makes him look like a refugee from a Heavy Metal group, Vittorio Leonardi didn’t always fit in to the sleepy small-town vibe of Welkom. On comedy stages from Polokwane to Cape Town, however, he shines like a star. This young media-junkie has a way of taking any movie or TV show, and showing it to us through his own quirky lens. The results are often as thought-provoking as they are hilarious, and the big guy’s sleepy charm makes him come across as a gleeful little boy.
