Here are some of her foodie secrets:
I always find the Boeremark, Jozi and Bryanston Organic Markets a pleasure. They have a fantastic array of interesting foods and I’m always too inquisitive for my own good leaving with basketfuls of tasty titbits!
PRETORIA BOEREMARK. Saturdays, Cnr Keuning & Pretoria Street, Silverton, Pretoria. Johan van Wyk, (012) 349 1227, 082 416 3900.
BRYANSTON ORGANIC MARKET, Culross Road, Off Main Road, Bryanston. 011 706 3671.
This is a tough one! I’d have to say fresh green chilli, basil leaves and garlic – that covers aspects Indian, Thai and Italian food – definitely my favourite types!
Where I shop
Meat – I am based in Centurion so the meat here in general is awesome! There’s this fantastic butchery across the road from me called “Braai in Style”. I’ve only been here a short while but I’m definitely one of their favourite customers!
BRAAI IN STYLE, CENTURION. (012) 663 7116. The Quiney Shopping Centre, Gerhard Street, Centurion.
Seafood – Fishermans Deli. I am very fussy about the quality of my prawns and they provide great quality every time.
FISHERMAN’S DELI. Shop 25 Dunkeld West Shopping Centre, 279 Jan Smuts Avenue, Dunkeld. Tel 011 325 2577.
Fresh produce –Dunkeld West Shopping Centre’s Fresh Produce store. With all those wholesome smells and colours, I could set up a picnic right there!
DUNKELD FRUITERERS & FLOWERS. Dunkeld West Shopping Centre, 279 Jan Smuts Ave, Dunkeld. 011 341-0101.
Spices – Fordsburg, you can’t beat them for their authenticity and flavours. But even they don’t touch my mother’s Durban homemade masala.
And I just have to mention Woolworths because they are always so perfectly reliable. One of my favourite things is their freshly frozen garlic, ginger and coriander trays. So convenient!
Where to go on a cooking course
Out of my own interest I have researched cooking schools in the area and Capsicum Culinary Studio is most appealing to me. I’ve tasted a few of the Capsicum graduates’ dishes and was most impressed!
