Executive chef, French-born ALEXANDRE COUPY, at the tender age of 15 began his formal chef’s training in France. After gaining experience in two 3 Michelin Star restaurants in both London and Monaco, Coupy headed for African shores where he was employed at The Cellars- Hohenhort Hotel as Chef de Partie. More recently he worked as Chef de Cuisine at The Lord Charles Hotel’s up-market “La Vigna” restaurant and at the Western Cape Hotel & Spa’s Premier Restaurant as ‘ Sous Chef’.
Au Jardin has undergone an exciting and extensive refurbishment and re-opened in October 2005. In a design that honours the old in a contemporary setting finished in fresh natural colours and modern materials like glass and stainless steel, Au Jardin’s new ‘areas of interest’ are set to see guests returning to celebrate every occasion. The café area – a street scene complete with pavement lamps – invites laid-back luncheons. The new bar, straddled by an impressive wine display and plush couches, offers the perfect setting for pre-dinner drinks. And removable glass doors allowing tables to spill outside onto the terrace, demand elegant evenings of al fresco dining during Summer; whilst on chillier evenings, a modern free-standing fireplace is well positioned to add heat to the restaurant’s main body. Chef Alex Coupy looks forward to welcoming all to the new-look Au Jardin and to trying out his new menu.
The Au Jardin Restaurant seats 70 people and is open for dinner Monday to Saturday. Dinner reservations are essential.
