KARLA EN DIE KERSKNOL – A family jol for the Festive Season

Presented by THE EVENT COMPANY and Sponsored by BEELD and VODAWORLD

A ground-breaking theatre experience awaits all Afrikaans speakers IN THE VODADOME THEATRE AT VODAWORLD in Midrand from 9 to 18 DECEMBER.

KARLA EN DIE KERSKNOL is pure family entertainment. This JOL – written by Wikus du Toit and directed by Lizz Meiring – is a musical filled with witty characters, hilarious storyline surprises, a flying springbok, oxwagons, inquisitive creatures, silly blondes, and an unforgettable tour of our country.

KARLA EN DIE KERSKNOL is fresh, warm, clever and funny – a visual, verbal and musical feast. Grown-ups and teenagers will enjoy the subtle humour, while the kids will revel in the slapstick silliness.

The renowned music director, Heidi Edeling, and a stream of talented top singers and musicians perform breathtaking popular Afrikaans songs. The costume designer Elmarie Jacobs and set and lighting designer Kosie Smit created stunning visual effects. Alethea Williams from African Footprints fame is the choreographer.

KARLA EN DIE KERSKNOL boasts numerous well-known artists: Actress and song diva Elzabé Zietsman plays the eccentric curmudgeon of the title while Karen Wessels from Casper Rasper and Cutt Glass fame plays Karla. Sarah Theron (Op die Vrou af, Baby Botha of Egoli) appears as a range of colourful characters. Elton Landrew, who performed locally and abroad for six years in David Kramer’s Kat and the Kings, plays Hus and Melanie le Roux, best known for her work in the top grossing musical Hangkas-Haas, appears as Sus.

Each performance brings an extra surprise – well-known Afrikaans music stars like PATRICIA LEWIS, KURT DARREN, ARNO CARSTENS and EDEN make guest appearances and sing some of their hits.

And then there is the exciting new talent in the cast: Corneleah Killian,(The Sound of Music), Zane Gillian,(Villa Rosa), Sunida de Beer (Antjie Somers), Melanie le Roux,(Hangkas-Haas) and Hennie Jacobs (Kabaret).
