You’re invited to Bellgables where they serve an à la carte menu each evening.
Guests are seated either in the dining-rooms in the House, or outside on the veranda when
weather permits. With gentle candlelight let the food permeate the senses.
They are able to source excellent natural produce such as locally produced cheeses, meat and lamb and prepare a selection of dishes which will give you a taste of this local produce.
Bellgables is set in the heart of the Cradle of Humankind – a country restaurant situated on 21 acres of land,
surrounded by the rolling Zwartkop hills near Muldersdrift. Here you will find tranquillity, elegance and a
superb dining experience, unlike any other.
Located near the very end of Beyers Naudé Drive, the restaurant is easily accessible from all major areas with
the R28 (N14) providing easy access for Pretoria residents.
The original dining room comfortably seats 30 people. A maximum of 80 guests are catered for in the Crystal Room
that overlooks the classically designed pool, natural gardens and dams flanking the passage way leading up
to the untouched indigenous forest. The décor is lavish and includes antiques and paintings collected over
many years. The walls are plastered with a special ‘aging’ technique, making the tones muted and earthy.
This blends in beautifully with the period furniture. Enormous flower arrangements spill out of gigantic concrete
urns and vases that decorate the dual concrete fireplace with fruit and vegetables arrangements abound,
adding to the rich country atmosphere.
There is a bar lounge that flows into the Crystal Room through an archway. It is furnished with comfortable
couches to relax in. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink while you peruse the menu, or for an after-dinner coffee and cognac.
Large wooden doors beckon you into a wine cellar filled with a private collection of rare South African vintages,
French Champagnes and magnums. These were specially selected for the cellar by owner Errol Gobey and
wine specialist Berenice Barker.
There is also a semi-private dining area nestled between the fireplace and the wine cellar. It can accommodate up
to 16 guests and can be reserved for more intimate dinners. The food is international and the select menu is
updated seasonally. Specials dishes complement the already extensive a-la-carte menu with homemade
bread always available. Food is freshly prepared and beautifully garnished to delight all the senses.
With service hosted by Arnold and Quenton, Bellgables also cater for weddings, dinner parties and other
special occasions. The cuisine is by Chef Patrons Errol Gobey and Harry Hinis. Chef Patron Errol Gobey
has recently been inducted into the ranks of the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs as Maitre Rotisseur.
Bellgables is now a holder of the prestigious Blazon – international symbol of excellence in food, wine and service.
