Braai Up A Feast!

Pick ‘n Pay’s Best Braai Sauce

Looking for a braai sauce that’s perfect for anything and everything you put on the braai? Then be sure to try out this delicious Best Braai Sauce Recipe!

Serves: 4

Time to make: Less than 15 minutes


125ml PnP tomato sauce

60ml PnP red wine vinegar

30ml mustard

30ml Worcestershire sauce

15ml PnP paprika

30ml PnP mixed braai spice

125ml PnP sugar

2 PnP garlic cloves, chopped

3 centimetres PnP knob ginger


1. Place PnP tomato sauce, PnP red wine vinegar, PnP mustard, PnP Worcestershire sauce, PnP paprika, PnP braai spices, PnP sugar, chopped garlic cloves and chopped knob ginger in a small saucepan.

2. Heat gently until sugar has dissolved.

3. Boil for a minute and season.

4. Pour sauce over meat (such as chicken and ribs) and toss to coat.

5. Braai meat over medium-hot coals until cooked through, slightly charred and sticky.

Braaibroodjies With Relish

A braai isn’t a braai without a stack of braaibroodjies to snack on!

Serves: 4

Time to make: Less than 30 minutes


1 packet of braaibroodjies or homemade braaibroodjies

For the relish:

1 drizzle PnP olive oil

1 PnP onion, finely sliced

2 PnP garlic cloves, crushed

350g PnP assorted cocktail tomatoes, halved

3 large PnP tomatoes, diced

125ml peppadews, chopped

1 dash PnP salt, to taste

15ml PnP coriander


1. Heat a glug of olive oil in a frying pan.

2. Fry onion until golden.

3. Add garlic and tomatoes and simmer for about 2 minutes.

4. Stir through peppadews and season with salt and milled pepper.

5. Set aside.

6. Heat braaibroodjies over medium coals until golden and heated through.

7. Top with a dollop of relish, garnish with coriander and serve.

Cook’s Tip:

Before placing braaibroodjies on the grid, lightly brush both sides with olive oil to avoid them sticking to the metal once braaied.

Chicken Kebabs

Snack throughout the day on one of these tasty chicken kebabs!

Serves: 4

Time to make: More than two hours


250ml PnP plain yoghurt

2 PnP garlic cloves, crushed

1 stick ginger pieces, peeled and grated

30ml PnP smooth apricot jam

4 cubed chicken breasts, cut into chunks


1. Mix together the yoghurt, garlic, ginger to a thick paste.

2. Add the chicken and marinate for as long as possible – anything from 1 hour to overnight.

3. Remove from marinade just before cooking.

4. Thread onto skewers and grill on braai for 7-10 minutes each side (depending on heat of braai).


1. Add a handful of fresh herbs to the marinade.

2. Cut up bits of veg – peppers, aubergine etc. and use on kebabs.
