Buckled, the hilarious comedy production directed by Krijay Govender and starring award-winning actors Leeanda Reddy (Isidingo’s Priya) and Meren Reddy (City Sesla) is returning to The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino for a string of performances from 28 to 31 July this year. The critically acclaimed show was a massive hit at The Lyric last year, enjoying sell-out shows to enthusiastic audiences.
From the makers of 150 Years & Still Laughing and Queens of Comedy, Buckled focuses on the wedding preparations of a young Indian couple. The comedic pair also portrays the multiple colourful characters that intrude on the couple’s plans – including the street-smart grandmother, drunken uncle, cook and photographer and meddling mothers – all of whom are identifiable side-splitting characters.
The play follows the journey of former school friends Yash and Shalendran en-route to getting ‘buckled’. The entire story takes place on elaborate sets that make the most of the technical facilities that The Lyric Theatre has to offer.
This entertaining piece will tickle you even if you know nothing about Indian weddings and even more so if you have lived through one yourself.
