Nestled in the foothills of the Magaliesberg in South Africa’s North West Province, the De Wildt Cheetah Research Centre is situated an hour from Joburg. It is close to the Hartbeespoort Dam, a popular destination for day excursions from Joburg.
This has to be one of our favourite weekend excursions, especially with their latest edition – the new Reach for the Wild Sensory Trail. The trail offers a unique experience with nature and is accessible to disabled people. Along the trail, you can hear the birds, feel the wind and touch the trees. Visitors are encouraged to use their senses to discover interesting facts about the Magaliesberg mountains, resident animals and the multitude of birds. The tour lasts approximately an hour and costs R25 for adults, R15 for school-going children and R5 for children under the age of 5.
