Nearly 28 years ago, in a North London attic, three beautiful sopranos dreamed of fame, stardom and the bright lights of the Opera House in Milan. At the same time, in a rather grubby sitting room in British West Hampstead, an out-of-work actress called Dillie Keane was suffering from a hangover and trying to persuade a couple of chums to sing with her at the local wine bar. She succeeded, and Fascinating Aida was born. So how can you describe Fascinating Aïda? Noel Coward meets Ab Fab, as sung by the Andrews Sisters but a great deal ruder than any of these. Its an exhilarating mix of extremely biting satire, broken dreams, utter class and gratuitous smut. Constantly updated songs, brilliant lyrics and heavenly harmonies. And some moments that will make your mother blush.
Their achievements can be numbered: 8 West End runs, 7 albums, performances in 5 continents, 3 Olivier nominations, 2 books, 2 farewell tours, 2 altos, 3 New York Drama Desk nominations, 1 Perrier nomination, and a YouTube phenomenon. Now they are fulfilling a long-held deep desire to come to South Africa. So come along and thrill as the three of them create their own special magic for you. Laugh as the girls defy time, gravity and their zippers to waft you on song through the hell that is modern life. There aint anyone else like em.
