Somewhere in Newtown the smell of freshly roasted coffee fills the air and lures people off the streets and into Craft Coffee. Craft Coffee is a roastery and breakfast spot worthy of your attention. The decor is brilliant and the coffee even more so. Skip on the classic breakfast buffet and indulge in some French pastries such as croissants, muffins and other baked goods.
Being a vegetarian can be frustrating sometimes, especially when it comes to breakfast time. Fortunately the family-run Kaldi’s Coffee on Jeppe Street has your back with their animal friendly eats. From classic breakfasts to tramizzini… it’s all here. Pull in!
The Bread Basket
Breakfast prices start at R27 and you get a bang for every penny you drop at this breakfast joint. Our favourite would be the Bread Basket Breakfast which consists of two eggs, bacon, beef sausage, halloumi, mushrooms and grilled tomato, served with a slice of toast.
Good cappuccinos, great sandwiches and brilliant service – that’s what we want for breakfast all day every day. Cafe Divine is one of those little gems that keeps on giving. Our favourite would be the make your own omellete section on the menu. Give it a try the next time you find yourself on the other side of the Nelson Mandela Bridge.
From 06:00 to 16:00 Chilli Beans serves freshly cooked food for those on the go. It’s a self-service type of vibe and there is no set menu, which in itself lends a surprise to each day. This spot is small and caters to local office blocks and perfect if you want to ‘gun and run’ the first meal of the day.
If we’ve left out your favourite spot, let us know through the comment section below and we’ll be sure to check it out. Know of anyone heading to Newtown? Then share this lovely little ditty with them.
