South Africas favourite band, Freshlyground is riding its wave of success back to The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino for exclusive performances on 29 and 30 April this year.
The afropop group returns triumphant to The Lyric Theatre after it played to capacity crowds at the venue in 2010 and enjoyed massive success as co-performers of the FIFA World Cup 2010 theme song, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
Freshlyground was formed in early 2002 and is made up of seven talented and diverse musicians from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The band has created a string of hit albums starting off with the 2003 debut, Jika Jika. The 2004 record, Nomvula, followed and delivered a host of hits including Doo Be Doo, I’d Like, Zithande and Things Have Changed. The album sold 300 000 units in South Africa alone, earning multi-platinum status in the process.
Freshlyground won the MTV Europe Award in the category Best African Act, cementing its position as a significant South African cultural export. Ma Cheri – Freshlyground’s third studio album – followed in September 2007.
Radio Africa, the latest Freshlyground album, has already gone gold. Freshlyground’s success is rooted in its energetic live shows and the band has played in a range of intimate and large venues in South Africa over the past decade. It has also performed in Europe, China, the US and Canada.
Last year, the band was selected to co-perform in the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup alongside Colombian superstar, Shakira.
Shows take place on 29 and 30 April at 20:30. Tickets are priced from R105 each. For further information follow the links alongside. You can also follow Gold Reef City Casino on Twitter.
