Gardenex – the largest and most popular floriculture exhibition in the southern hemisphere – takes place between 23-26 March 2006 at The Coca Cola Dome in Northgate, North Riding, Johannesburg. Every year Gardenex offers local and international exhibitors a premier platform to showcase every aspect of flora, gardening and landscaping to thousands of keen gardeners and homemakers. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about new industry trends and keep up-to-date with the latest information in gardening and landscaping.

The wonderful world of gardening just begs to be discovered at Gardenex. Southern Africa’s largest gardening show never fails to amaze, inspire and delight audiences with fresh new plant, cut flowers, gardening tools, accessories and décor products.

The Blooming Ideas Theatre is wildly popular among those with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. These free workshops feature talks by top gardening and landscaping professionals, and will offer you the opportunity to learn from the experts and create the garden of your dreams.

For the first time Gardenex is hosting a Garden Rose Competition which is open to all gardeners who wish to showcase their perfect blooms – and there are fabulous prizes to be won. It is quite a thrill to see your rose staged and compete with other blooms, especially as it will be seen by more than 20 000 people during the show. Ludwig’s Roses is assisting the Gold Reef Rose Society and the Northern Rose Society to organise the competition.

There will be a category for first time or novice exhibitors and there will be classes for hybrid tea, floribunda, old fashioned, and miniature roses, either single stems or clusters of three and five. The fee is R1 per entry or R10 for 10 or more entries. Don’t be afraid that your roses are not good enough or that you don’t know how to exhibit your roses. For information please email: talkingroses@ludwigsroses.co.za.

For those with an eye for quality blooms and design, top floral designers will share their splendid creations at the Multiflora Quality Competition, and a grand display of floral arrangements, exotic plants and flower varieties can be seen at the National Flower Arranging Competition.

If you prefer a bit of real-life suspense, you will enjoy the Ready Steady Plant Competition. Watch as South Africa’s best landscapers battle it out to create gardens that reflect the latest trends, styles and ideas in just 40 minutes! For pure leisure and enjoyment, “Time out in Paradise” has been created to showcase South Africa’s rich floral diversity in magnificently landscaped gardens.

There are also many gardening prizes to be won just by visiting the show, but the ultimate prize is certainly a trip on the Keith Kirsten Chelsea Flower Show in May. This tour is brought to you by Keith Kirsten Horticulture International, Royal Canin and Jeep. The prize includes two economy class tickets to London, five-star accommodation, and a magnificent 6 days of sight-seeing with Keith Kirsten.

There is something for everyone at Gardenex. Even the smallest among the green-fingered visitors to the show will find something to capture and hold their imagination. In the case of the little folk, it’s the kiddies’ play area, where planting competitions, sponsored by Mayfords seeds and Graemark will fuel the competitive spirit, while Mulbry Bear and Herb Herbert impart sage advice and tips for keen little gardeners. Great prizes are on offer form Spur for the young winners.

Don’t miss the highlight on every green-fingered South African’s calendar! See, feel, touch and smell beautiful plants, flowers and trees, discover and buy the latest decorative garden accessories, ornaments and accessories and enjoy the beauty of magnificently landscaped gardens.
