Get Fit With Your Phone!

Alright! It’s the new year and everybody is trying to get fit and look good this year and it actually makes sense for the first time because if it is really the end of the world in December 2012, then this is your last chance to stun.

With the big smart phone and Ipad revolution happening there is almost nothing you can’t do with your device and fitness and gym training is no exception. Heres my list of apps that will get you started on your road to health and RIPS!

Nike BOOM – Free[Android + Iphone]
Nike BOOM is a fun program that taps into your phones music playlist allowing you to assign tracks to differnet types of workout. The various workouts supplied are also accompanied by a voice-over by your favourite Nike athletes which help motivate you in the middle of your workout. I found a funny comment on the Android Market by a user saying that the ‘sexy’ voices from the athletes helped her train harder. Whether you think the voices are sexy or not this app is a winner.

Get in Shape: ready food plans & workouts – Free[Iphone/Ipad]
This is a great app because it matches a goal with a workout and diet. There are 8 goals – slimming, weight gain, beach body, cleansing, beauty, metabolism, healthy diet and prevention. But the app doesn’t stop there, it graphs your improvement and even opens communication with dieticians who develope programs tailored to your needs.

Runtastic PRO – R41.20[Android]
Runtastic monitors your route and distance travelled by using your phones GPS. It then will graph your time, map your route and mark off your heart rate. This helps gauge improvment but also makes running more fun. For those of you that run socially you can also share your stats with frinds in a social media style layout.

Nike Training Club – Free[Iphone]
This wouldn’t be a fitness/app article without mentioning the controversial Nike Training Club app which has gotten all Android users hot under the collar due to it’s release solely for the Mac platforms. This like Nike Boom features audio commentary to help keep you motivated but also features 85 workouts to fit with 4 seperate goals, sinks your music, adds video assitance and features pro workouts from Nike celebs, celebrity proffesinal trainers and world famous coaches. It’s graphs your progress and allows you to customise most features making this a very popular app in 2012.

Addidas Micoach – Free[Android + Iphone]
Micoach is an answer to Nikes Training Club, BOOM and Nike Plus. The app is free and available to both Android and Mac users but also boasts a high level of interaction between the app and the online community at Micoach.com. The other unique sell point here is that they offer extra hardware and shoes/boots at a cost which can add to the apps already long list of features making Addidas Micoach a large contender in the professional and enthusiast realm.

100 Push-ups – R9.67
This is a fun program for those out there looking to challenge yourself in the new year. 100 push-ups claims to get you from doing 0 push-ups to 100 and apparantly in only 6 weeks! It takes you through the steps daily and increases your numbers accordingly. Supported by the Hundredpushups.com website and program.

Goodluck with your workouts and remember the classic nineties cliche ‘No Pain no Gain’
