What Is It?
The Fire & Feast Butcher’s Festival offers Joburg a mouth-watering lineup of excitement and an array of delectable treats! A first of its kind in the city, this festival has partnered with Crown National and unveiled its three-day programme, which includes celebrity chefs, championship cook-offs and more than 80 exhibitors. With this and more, visitors are in for an absolute treat of everything meat, complemented by great music and family entertainment in a grand setting.
This event is dedicated to the mighty grill with restaurants from across the city serving their BBQ delicacies and offering workshops for enthusiasts. Polish up on your cooking skills by checking out the live cooking demonstrations, Q&A panels, a variety of tastings, as well as opportunities to meet chefs – and don’t forget to try your luck in a selection of competitions running at the festival.
Other highlights include the National Butchers Challenge competition, with the winning team representing South Africa in Ireland. There will also be the ultimate South African Free Flame Championships, where 60 individuals or teams will sweat over hot grills and show off their creative cooking skills in potjie, braai, shisa nyama and an American-style barbeque. The top four grill masters will represent South Africa at the most prestigious World Barbeque Championships in Ireland, as they take on the best barbeque teams from across the globe.
Guests can also look forward to the Beer and Braai Garden, the Lamb and Mutton Kitchen, the Beef Kitchen, and the Wine and Food Pairing Zone. There will be plenty of opportunities to sample, sip and shop through the festival.
