Sure, it’s not as big of a deal here as it is in America, but Joburg still has a few fun and creepy events lined up to celebrate the spookiest day of the year. Northgate’s Freaky Fun House – Dates to be announced

Then one thing we love about Halloween is the fact that Northgate always has something creepy up their sleeves for both young and old. Their usual Haunted House will be making a comeback this Halloween but as the Freaky Fun House. Expect loads of scares, ghouls, creepy decorations and plenty of laughs. More details about the Freaky Fun House are yet to be unveiled, so make sure you keep an eye out on their Facebook page for more information.

Parkmore Halloween Parade 2017 – Saturday, 28 October 2017

The annual Parkmore Halloween Parade is back on 28 October 2017 (from 16:30 to 18:00), offering children and Halloween fans the opportunity to enjoy the fun and spookiness this time of the year brings. This year, the route has been changed so that those that live near the sports club will have the chance to be a ‘Sweetie House’. If you live nearby and would like to be a ‘Sweetie House’, contact the Parkmore Community Association PCA. This is a great opportunity to trick or treat the little ones in the community. The route will start and end at the sports club.

Halloween 2017 at Jackal Creek – Saturday, 28 October 2017

Who has their creepy Halloween costume ready? If not, you better hurry as the Jackal Creek annual Halloween event is fast approaching! There’ll be plenty of fun and scares perfect for the whole family, including the haunted Trick or Treat trail, music entertainment spun by a DJ, delicious food at a variety of food stalls, creepy crawly animals, fire dancers, themed games for the little ones, a dance after party and a best dressed competition. Make sure you get your tickets to this exciting event at Webtickets (tickets cost between R40 and R80 per person). Oh, and don’t forget to take a torch along with you.

Howl’oween Picnic at Joburg Zoo – Saturday, 28 October 2017

Why not celebrate Halloween with the Johannesburg Zoo, who will be hosting a Howl’oween Picnic in the Zoo on the evening of Saturday, 28 October 2017? There will be scary animated movies showing on an outdoor screen on the lawn, visits to the scary animals of the Amazon as well as lots of other fun activities and kiddies entertainment. Tickets cost R80 per person and are available at Computicket.

Halloween In Glenvista – Saturday, 28 October 2017

Spend Halloween with your loved ones, trick or treating with GANSRA. Absolutely everyone of all ages are welcome to join in on the fun. Entry is FREE. Dress up in your scariest Halloween costume and enjoy an afternoon (and evening) filled with boerewors rolls, jumping castles, face painting, candy floss, popcorn and stand the chance of winning a helicopter ride from the raffle that will be taking place at the event. And don’t stress about parking, there will be plenty of secure parking corner of Bellairs and Allen. There will also be prizes for the best dressed on the day.

The Haunted Woods – Saturday, 28 October 2017

Picnics In The Park will be hosting two separate events this Halloween. The Haunted Woods (from 12:00 to 17:00) is family friendly, and this year it’s going to be bigger and better, with more goblins, ghouls and goons through eerie smoke and scary sounds to creep you out (just a little bit). And if you’re not slinking around the forest filled with spine-chilling skeletons, menacing witches and other creepy ghouls, then why not watch a film on the big screen? Children of all ages are welcome to join in the festivities. Expect face painting, a Haunted Woods shop with buckets, googly eyes and costumes, and lots of games. Tickets cost between R100 and R165 per person and are available at Quicket.

Spooktacular Halloween at Sun City – Saturday, 28 October 2017

This October, the Valley of Waves at Sun City will be bringing you the scariest Halloween yet with their Spooktacular Halloween event. The usually beautiful water park will be transformed into a hellish haven for the creepiest of creatures, who will emerge from the shadows to join in on the freakish celebrations. Instead of the Lazy River, you’ll find the River of Horror, and who knows what might be lurking in its depths… There will be mysterious face painters to bring out your darker side before you settle down for a Halloween movie on the beach. This is a Halloween celebration perfect for the whole family. You can get your tickets from Computicket at R175 per person (R95 per child ages between 4 and 17 years).

Day Of The Dead Party – Saturday, 28 October 2017

It’s time to party and this Halloween, Katy’s Palace Bar will be celebrating Mexico’s Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) as only Katy’s Palace knows how. The evening will be filled with fantastic live music and awesome tunes spun by the DJ, a pumping vibe and many cool and interesting individuals. Don’t forget to dress up, it’s Halloween after all. The Haunted Forest – Saturday, 28 October 2017

Now onto the grown-ups-only Picnic In The Park event, The Haunted Forest! And this year, the theme is going to be Theatre Bizarre. Guests will follow a trail of fire-eaters, performers and acts as they follow the evening’s path through the eerie forest at Riversands Farm Village. Enjoy haunting performances and exclusive sets created with a hint of bizarre, stroll through the woods filled with freaky fog, ghastly spiders, dragons and showgirls, or stop by red-hot Vixen Ladies who will be available for professional make-up sessions. Make sure you arrive in your most ghoulish and bizarre costume for this fab event. Tickets cost between R150 and R200 per person and are available at Quicket.

Chicago’s 2017 Halloween Weekend – Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 October 2017

From a Freak Night Friday (27 October 2017) to a Superhero Saturday (28 October 2017), Chicago’s Piano Bar is just the place to be if you’re looking to flaunt your costume and celebrate Halloween. You’ll see ghosts, monsters, ghouls and freaks in all shapes and sizes. Since it is the spookiest weekend of the year, you can expect an evening of chills and thrills with spooky entertainment. No Tricks, Just Treats – Tuesday, 31 October 2017

Make the most of Halloween with a beer tasting and food pairing at Jeep Midrand. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a professional tasting by Two Okes Brewery – presented by the brew master Hennie Kloppers. Biogen Halloween Night Trail Run – Thursday, 26 October 2017

Get out your running shoes and take part in the scariest night trail in the city! Back for its fifth year running, the Biogen Halloween Night Trail Run at the PWC Cycle park in Bryanston will bring runners a fun and frightful night. There’s something for everyone, including a kiddies Trick or Treat 1km Run (starts at 18:15), and a 5km/8,5km night trail run/walk (starts at 19:15). Go dressed up in your favourite Halloween outfit as there will be prizes for the best-dressed lady and gent.
