After much deliberation, loads of beer, countless tours and broken bones Halfprice are here to launch their second full length album in Johannesburg. Entitled
Although many changes have been made to the line-up over the past 5 years the present arrangement of The DFG, homo Pete, B.G. Rene, and Kyle ‘the machine’ have been rocking out their Psychoholic brand of Cape Town Punk Rock for the past three years.
Almost 2 years after they went into that cultural haven called Boksburg to record Taking Life Seriously (2004) they once again made the trek to B# Studios to record under Italian Sound Engineering Maestro JP Stefani. The recording process was particularly taxing because they ran out of money resulting in a rapid decline into filth, fear and loathing as cabin fever set in and the four walls (and no ceiling) seemed to close in on them.
The result of 28 days of malnourishment, a diet of canned food, beer and cigarettes, Pete’s smelly feet, filthy clothes and living away from the motion of the ocean, is Banned ; a 14 track album with some of the ‘phattest’ sounds ever to come out of South Africa with a whole new level of maturity in terms of songwriting – from Rock n’ Roll styles to Ska Punk party tunes yet they have still managed to maintain the same satire, hereditary diseases and the characteristic oddball element of social commentary that one has come to expect from the menagerie that is Halfprice.
