Camped in a corner of the parking lot at the Parktown Quarter, this Saturday morning event has all the elements of a neighbourhood market.
It’s well spread out with lots of space to move — perfect for families and prams — and lots to keep young people amused.
At one end is a large communal area with plenty of tables and seating, popular for breakfast, coffee, lunch and special celebrations.
Organiser Scott Sargent says it has become the neighbourhood meeting place with many choosing it for a celebration, with the party collecting all the elements for the picnic from the market, of course.
There are lots of little titbits to be had — nougat, chocolate, Turkish delight, jams, relishes, sauces and chutneys. Delicious chicken pies handmade by The Tart owner Toni Scorgie, who also brings along a selection of her best bakes. There are also a few goodies for the kitchen: goats-milk cheeses, dried fruit and nuts, salad dressings, coffees and fresh juices. As you enter, you will be tempted by the flower seller next to an outlet specialising in organic fruit and vegetables.
Venue Parktown Quarter, cnr 7th and 3rd Avenue, Parktown North.
Date: Every Saturday at 08h30 to 13h30.
