Following the enormous critical and popular success of Grimm Tales (seven Naledi nominations), the Market Theatre brings another piece of dynamic storytelling for the whole family.
Featuring an evocative soundscape and especially composed music by Neill Solomon that integrates African and Indian traditions, a diverse troupe of physical theatre actors and dancers, a set that is filled with ladders, ropes, trampolines and different levels, this promises to be a magical, thrilling and highly memorable production. There will be real surprises in store for those who know the story from the movie. What emerges here is a riveting allegory that suggests that how our family are not those who look the same as us but those who love and care for us – as Mowgli, at the end, returns to the jungle to rejoin his true friends.
The book has been adapted by Craig Higginson, the Market`s Literary Manager, who also directs, and Tim Supple, Former Artistic Director of the Young Vic, London. This is the same team – including designer Sasha Ehlers, who won a Naledi Award for this collaboration – that brought you Grimm Tales.
