Aussie Comedy Legend Kevin “Bloody” Wilson to Tour SA!
After years of watching some of SA’s brightest and best talents find appreciative audiences in Australia, Parker Leisure Management (PLM) is glad to announce a brief reversal of the trend. For one week in August 2008, the convict continent will be sending one of its finest talents to us in the form of outrageous comedy legend Kevin “Bloody” Wilson, on his second South African tour.
A cult star in SA for over twenty years, Wilson earned his following in the Eighties. His earthy lyrics and unashamedly blokey songs might have been officially banned, but that didn’t stop them spreading like wildfire on countless illegally copied cassettes – so you could call this tour a belated foray to collect his royalties!
Kevin will be visiting Johannesburg’s Carnival City (Friday, 15th and Saturday, 16th of August ), East London (Sunday, 17th of August), The Feathermarket Centre in Port Elizabeth (Tuesday, 19th of August), GrandWest Casino’s Grand Arena in Cape Town (Wednesday, 20th of August), Durban’s Playhouse Theatre (Thursday, 21st of August) and the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg (Friday, 22nd of August).
Image: Thanks to this Aussie original’s irrepressibly cheeky songs, a generation grew up knowing how to berate Santa Claus for delivering substandard Christmas presents, or how to ask a girl the important questions, like if her dad owns a brewery and if she’s, er, fun on first dates… Needless to say, those aren’t the words he uses – in fact, its best that maiden aunts and other easily-offended types are warned about Kevin’s language well in advance.
On his last visit to these shores in 1997, despite relying almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity, Kevin sold out wherever he performed – sports clubs, town halls and pubs were all chock-a-block. Fans should book early because we’re expecting the same response this time round – especially as this bawdy legend has timed his visit to coincide with the madness of the Tri-Nations Rugby tournament! In fact, the Wallabies play the Springboks in Durban on 23rd August and in Johannesburg a week later, so it’ll make a nice change to have an Aussie around that we don’t mind cheering for…
A sure-fire hit with anybody with a sense of humour, Kevin “Bloody” Wilson promises a no-holds-barred night out – but only for those who can cope with strong language, knee-slapping song parodies and some very, very funny home truths. You have been warned…
