Play Date Ideas

Kids like to play and moms need a break. Hello, play dates! Check out these places that are ideal for both little ones and moms.

Lunch At Papachinos

Established in 2003, Papachinos was born out of the desire for a child-friendly “family restaurant” with caring supervision, state-of-the-art playground and restaurant facilities, and quality and wholesome meals. Focusing on the entire family’s well-being and involving their “astute young chefs” in activities like the “roll, make and bake” pizza experience ensures an awesome day out for all. By staying true to their strong beliefs of quality in all areas of the Papachinos experience, each and every one of their franchises promises family fun and delicious food for everyone!

Tea At Annica’s

Annica’s Designer Cakes, nestled in the Ferndale area of Randburg, might not look like much when you drive past but once you step inside it’s a world of wonder… Not only is there a bakery, there’s also a restaurant/cafe and a patio and play area. The bakery has phenomenal cakes, and you can order a personalised one to your specifications. The restaurant offers delicious sweet and savoury meals, perfect for moms, dads and kids. The patio is ideal for play dates as you can sit there with your tea or coffee and soak up the sun while the kids have tons of fun in the playing area.

Gold Reef City Escape

What’s better than taking the kids to Gold Reef City for a fun-filled adventurous escape? Uhm, not many things. Gold Reef City theme park has some of SA’s fastest, biggest and most thrilling rides ever. And if you’ve never been there before, then it’s high time you make a day of it – because this theme park is family friendly with kiddies rides as well as adrenaline-filled rides and so much more! But what’s fun and adventure on an empty stomach? Not much fun at all, which is why Golf Reef has a range of restaurants and fast food spots you can pick from. And for candy lovers, there’s a candy floss and toffee apple stand waiting just for you and the kids.

Croc City

Treat the kids to something different on their next play date by visiting the award-winning farm in Gauteng. Croc City Crocodile and Reptile Park is only 5 minutes drive from the Fourways area. You and the kids will be given the opportunity to hold a baby crocodile, snakes and even a tarantula – supervised, of course. There are other thrills on display such as some of South Africa’s most venomous snakes, including the black and green mamba, boomslang and more. After the tour you can relax in the tea garden that serves light lunches, while the kids play in the shaded play area.

FreeRange Lifestyle Centre

For mommies who love to catch up with friends over lunch and a little shopping, FreeRange Lifestyle Centre in the heart of Fourways is the perfect place for the whole family. Here, parents and kids can eat, play and shop to their hearts’ desires. The two kids’ play areas are separated into age groups: one for zero to three-year-olds and the other for those three-years-old and up. Best still, the play areas have child minders so while you catch up on some work or enjoy coffee with your friends, your children are well taken care of.
