MGC operates primarily over the weekends but weekday flying can be arranged, and is becoming increasingly popular, particularly among our student pilots.
The Club has around 200 members and a summer weekend will typically see between 100 and 150 starts. Flights of 300 km are regularly achieved and 500 kms are fairly common with Koster, Lichtenburg, Ventersdorp, Zeerust, Coligny and Ottosdal amongst the popular turning points.
Magalies Gliding Club offers introductory training membership for prospective new members. This program is intended to introduce the sport of gliding to the general public, and thereby attract new members. To participate in this introductory program, you must join the club and the Soaring Society of South Africa (SSSA) as a day member, thereafter you may take a trial instruction flight.
If you wish to continue your training you must apply to join the club, and the SSSA as a full member.
