After months of veiled social media messages and building delays, the much-anticipated Marble restaurant was officially launched on 11 August 2016. Situated on the top floor of The Trumpet building, is the newest addition to the rapidly growing Rosebank Keyes Art Mile; the restaurant boasts unobstructed views stretching all the way to the Magaliesberg.
The building itself is beautifully designed, noticeable at first glance from the cascading staircase leading to the triple volume entrance. In line with leading international trends, Trumpet promises to be a collaboration of design, art and food. It’s evident that no detail was spared in the conception of the space. From the wooden flooring, to the detailing on the roof and walls, even in the hand-crafted crockery; the restaurant is modern but inviting… bold yet subtle.
The massive open grill, the focal point of the restaurant, brings a new intimacy to this dining experience, leaving diners able to see and ‘feel’ their food being plated.
Contemporary South African chef, David Higgs has promised that the restaurant will bring earthy, bold flavours to patrons, with every dish incorporating an element from the grill. Guests at the launch were treated to oysters, seared tuna, pulled pork pillows, delicious roasted vegetable and smoky, skewered beef. The desserts were just as creative, with ginger biscuit s’mores and rhubarb pavlova, satiating any and everyone’s sweet tooth.
The bar is just as exquisite, and threatens to be a feature of the restaurant in it’s own right. The bar lounge is separated from the restaurant by a floor-to-ceiling wine rack, with what promises to be a huge selection. Both traditional and creative cocktails will also be served.
The restaurant is an exciting addition to Rosebank, and will definitely raise the bar in terms of Joburg dining experiences. If as much thought and detail goes into the food as it did the space, the restaurant should be a great new player in the Joburg culinary scene.
