Salsa Mexican Grill is one of the newest additions to the city’s dining scene. Located in the always-buzzing Pineslopes Shopping Centre in Fourways, right next to Beerhouse, this festive Mexican eatery serves up the very best margaritas and burritos at fantastic prices!
I recently visited Salsa with a group of friends. It was a Thursday evening, and we were all very excited to check it out. The dining area of the restaurant features modern wooden tables and chairs, and an open-plan kitchen. For a Mexican joint, the décor is a tad subdued, but I somewhat liked the simplicity. There’s also a large outdoor patio area, which I’m sure is being put to good use this summer.
Onto the food, Salsa’s menu is organised in two sections. The first is dubbed ‘Create Your Own Mexican Feast’, and lets you pick a base (lettuce cups, tacos, burrito, bowl or pizzadilla) and then add a protein (chicken, beef or battered hake), other extras (rice, black beans, cheese and veggies), and salsas. Each item is priced separately, so the end price will depend on what you pick. The second section of the menu consists of pre-designed salads, tacos, burritos, pizzadillas, sides and ribs.
After much debate, my table decided to order a couple of starters to share as well as a main each. For my main, I couldn’t resist ordering the chicken burrito. I also had a taste of some of the tantalising starters that were spread out on our table, including the jalapeno poppers and the nachos. Everything was delicious! I especially enjoyed my burrito, which was an interesting and tasty combination of chicken, rice and assorted veggies.
Although it was a weeknight, we decided that a Mexican dinner wouldn’t be complete without a good old frozen margarita, so we ordered a jug to share. The drink was sweet, salty and potent! I’ve got to give it to Salsa for making a top-notch frozen margarita.
Apart from the great food, the service we experienced was fantastic, too. Our waiter was really attentive, knowledgeable, and just lots of fun. The manager also checked on us a couple of times to ensure everything was fine. All the staff seemed really enthusiastic about the restaurant and eager to please, which is always lovely to see. I’ll certainly go back! I look forward to more enjoyable evenings out at this vibey spot.
