Maropeng will be hosting monthly stargazing evenings this year with its resident astronomer, Vincent Nettmann.
The next stargazing evening is taking place on Saturday, 22nd of August, 2009 and will explore the Milky Way.
Our galaxy, the Milky Way is “a large floating island of stars, in the vast ocean of the Universe”. August is the best time to observe the Milky Way and some of its 100-billion stars. Take a telescopic journey with Vincent to the centre of our galaxy, which will be directly over-head during the evening.
This event will be hosted by the Tumulus Restaurant, is a child friendly event and includes welcome drinks and a buffet dinner for R195 for adults and R95 for children.
Visitors can also take advantage of an accommodation special, staying at the Maropeng Hotel after the stargazing for R675 per person sharing, including breakfast (single supplement R400).
The dates of the stargazing events for the rest of the year are as follows:
Saturday, 22nd of August, 2009 – Explore the Milky Way
Saturday, 19th of September, 2009 – Jupiter and Galileo
Saturday, 17th of October, 2009 – Living amongst the stars
