The Christmas Season is just about upon us, but fear not – Mary Christmas and Japie New Year will be arriving on stage just in time to help you escape the end of year madness! This side-splitting musical comedy will be staged at The Lungile House Theatre in Poortview, Roodepoort, opening on Friday, 1st of December for 11 performances only, until Wednesday, 13th of December 2006.
Full of fun and frivolity, Mary Christmas and a Japie New Year is based in Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein where the Town Council hires a fading Hollywood actress to direct their centennial Christmas Revue, and all sorts of hilarity ensues. Witty dialogue and split-second comedic timing encourages the audience to do what we South Africans do so well – to enjoy the ability to laugh at ourselves; and in both English and Afrikaans!
This tongue-in-cheek comedy is set to a diverse selection of instantly recognisable songs including ‘Working 9 – 5’, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, ‘Super Trooper’, ‘My Guy’, ‘Can’t take my eyes off of you’, and many others, ensuring that the show will appeal to people of all ages. Sing along to the popular Christmas classics including ‘Rudolph the Red nose reindeer’, ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and others. Added to the evening’s enjoyment is a superb 3-course dinner provided by Lungile House Theatre in their intimate supper-theatre venue; the ideal venue for the cast to be able to interact with their audience.
The show runs from Friday, 1st to Wednesday, 13th December, starting at 19h30 each evening. Starters are enjoyed first, then the first 30-minute half of the show. After which it’s eating time again with Main Course, followed by the second 30-minute half of the show and then dessert.
What better way to welcome in the Christmas season than by enjoying a local is lekker production at its finest. A must for old and young, male and female alike. Christmas will never be the same again!
