Gallery 2

This intimate space is located on Jan Smuts in Parkwood. From exhibiting one man shows among others, Gallery 2 is a definite must visit. Go support local emerging and established contemporary artists; you won’t be disappointed.

Res Gallery

Resolution Gallery in also located on the Art Strip on Jan Smuts Avenue. The space is intimate and mainly focuses on less traditional but more digital art and media. The space is also very welcoming and quite interactive, giving you a fuller exhibition experience.

David Krut Project

On the same Art Strip on Jan Smuts you will also find this intimate space that recently opened a second branch located in Maboneng Precinct by Arts on Main. The gallery promotes and exhibits a range of artists, mainly in the fine art and experimental art department.

Art It Is

This gallery is located on 11 Chester Road in Parkwood . The space is a nifty artists’ hub that will have your creative juices gushing the minute your enter the gallery. Focusing on contemporary artists, not only can you feast your eyes but you can buy art at affordable prices.

Soma Art + Space

This double story space is located in Maboneng Precinct. The gallery has a jazzy and warm atmosphere that encourages interaction with the art works and the other guests. With a bar on the first floor, the tradition of wine and art is sustained.

ABSA Gallery

Best known for exhibiting some of South Africa’s finest artists, this gallery is a must visit and is located on 161 Main Road in Joburg CBD. Creating a platform for artists and architects to interact in a unique manner, gallery goers also get a chance to meet the exhibited artists and the team behind them.

Area 3

Be one with all the cool kids of Johannesburg and visit Area 3 gallery, located in Braamfontein. Area 3 is far from a traditional art gallery mainly focusing on popular culture, specifically footwear and apparel. Area 3 is also home to Adidas style.

Stevenson Gallery

Also located in Braamfontein, this gallery has been host to contemporary groups and solo artists. Their exhibited artists’ shows offer diversity to the art world in general. The gallery also has a international exhibition programme that gives local artists access to the world.

Kuhlcher Café

Although this is technically not an official art gallery, they do have an art gallery/exhibition space inside the venue on Fox Street, Maboneng. Showing art curated and submitted by local artists, you can pop in for a meal, some drinks, a book, and a piece of artwork. Talk about all-in-one, right?
