Norman is a self-taught photographer who turned his hobby into his business. He was raised and educated in London and has had a very varied and interesting career to date.
He started his working life as an Electrical Engineer and gained his degree in London. From there he came to Africa and settled for a while in Zimbabwe, where another hobby, skydiving, led to his becoming interested in flying. This in turn led to a commercial pilots licence and a change in career.
From Zimbabwe, he spent a year hitchhiking in Australia, then came back to Africa again where he joined South African airways. During his 5 years with S.A.A. his then wife, a professional fashion model, was responsible for his picking up a camera for the first time.
His early photography was mainly fashion but wedding photography was a natural follow-on to this, and wedding photography is now what he is known best for.
His photographic style is very informal and he believes that ‘fun’ is an important element in obtaining vibrant and natural-looking images. His ‘English’ sense of humour he sees as a great advantage!
