Some women find reading magazines very depressing. They see photos of skinny, cellulite-free and wrinkle-free models and immediately plummet into the very depths of despair because their bodies don’t quite match up. Well, lately, I have been facing the same problem when reading décor magazines, because I have absolutely NO clue how to get my newly renovated house to look like the epitome of taste and tranquility. Because, if the truth be known, I am “paint challenged”. I have absolutely no clue as to what colour to paint my walls, and how to choose between Tawny Mink, Pale linen and Ivory Parchment. My husband has begun tearing out what is left of his hair, because it has now been over two weeks and we have still not chosen the “right” shade of cream for the lounge walls. And I really DO feel his pain, but I am completely frozen with indecision.
About Plascon Living Concepts
Plascon Living Concepts is an inspiring, first-of-its-kind concept paint showroom. Apart from the magnificent, dreamy atmosphere, created to inspire you, the showroom uses specially developed computer software; designed to help inspire you by allowing you to see the Plascon range of colours on digital images of your home.
All of this, coupled with expert advice, makes Living Concepts a must see for all DIY enthusiasts, decorators, designers, architects and paint specifiers. The beauty of Living Concepts is held in more than just the décor – it’s about the advice they offer you. Once you have chosen your specific paint, you will be directed to the nearest supplier to buy your tins of paint.
A look inside the store
Living Concepts is a highly visual space, designed to attract and inspire shoppers. The space is marked by vibrant, muted and shaded blocks of colour, shapes on the ceiling, combinations of paint textures and sheens as well as tactile elements called “touchy-feelies”. All of these are there to stimulate the senses – making a visit to Living Concepts a multi-sensory experience.
Apart from the beautifully designed space, there is a reference library in the upstairs section and a “Dream and Inspire” booth below. The booth is a lounge area for you to be inspired by visuals while you enjoy a cappuccino.
There is also a “Designer’s Corner”, where guest designers can create a design incorporating paint, furniture, lighting and fabrics to inspire guests as to what they can do with their own homes.
What to Expect
When you come to Living Concepts, a consultant will take you though a colour consultation process. This is done using the Plascon Visualiser – a simulation software programme that allows you to choose the right Plascon paint colours for your home.
You will need to bring JPEG images of your home with you. The team will then upload the images onto one of their workstations. Once they have done this, you will be able to apply over 1 500 different Plascon colours to the image of your home. This will help you to choose the perfect colours for your living space. You are also encouraged to bring in personal items such as plans, fabric samples or flooring to help you and your consultant choose the right colours.
Once you have chosen the colours for your home, your consultant will advise you on the correct brand for interior and exterior use. A section of the showroom is dedicated to brand information and allows you to view the finish of the paint you have chosen.
