Some of the best known classical music from award winning movies will be featured in the next series of concerts presented by Joburg Pro Musica. Promising a visually impressive presentation, this production will be staged at one of Johannesburg’s best kept entertainment secrets, the Pro Musica Theatre in Florida Park.
Planned for the end of September, this production marks the formal launch for the Pro Musica Theatre’s newly refurbished foyer, and rebranded corporate identity. It will showcase the full extent of the Theatre’s aesthetic and technical facilities. In addition, the acoustic design of the Theatre is of such a standard that there is not a single bad seat in the house.
Pro Musica’s love affair with the arts started back in 1981, and the recent investments in upgrading the facilities demonstrates this establishment’s commitment to providing a world class centre for the lyric arts. “The past 27 years of history at the Theatre is a significant achievement that should be celebrated and built upon:, says newly appointed CEO, Maretha Smit. “We can only be successful unfulfilling our vision for the future if we appreciate our past, and salute the people who made the present possible.”
Amongst many more, the programme consists of the following compositions: Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss features in the movie 2007: A Space Odyssey; the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Masscagni features in Godfather III; Adagio from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto from the epic movie Out of Africa; Vangelis’ Conquest of Paradise from 1492; Andante from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 features in the movie Elvira Madigan; Va Pensiero from Nabucco by Verdi from the movie The Colour of Money; the Overture from Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach from the films Gulag and Peter’s Friends.
The soloists for the programme are Etienne Malan (clarinet) and Johan Botes (piano).
