We rounded up three simple tricks you could do to calm your mind, body and soul before going to bed. Try one – or even all three – to kick stress out the door.
Take A Long Soak In A Hot Bath
Run a hot bath (the water just needs to be warmer than your body temperature). Recline into the water for 15 to 20 minutes. You can soak for longer if you like. Between the warmth of the water and gravity working in your favour, your kidneys will want to back off the adrenal glands. This will help the release of those stress hormones like cortisol and adrenalin, bringing more calm into your body.
Think Of Something Or Someone You Truly Enjoy
Notice how this makes your body feel. It could be a lighter feeling, or perhaps a sense of being open in a part of your body. Whatever it is, follow that feeling! Does it have a shape, maybe a colour? It not, that’s fine, too.
Feel Your Body Where It Touches Your Bed
Feel your skin where it touches your bed; feel it contacting your sheet. Then, run your fingers over your resting muscles and feel how they’re supported by your mattress. Stay with your awareness of the sensations in your body. This is a very calming technique – don’t underestimate it! Try it.
Tomorrow morning, you’ll thank us.
