Each February, in the name of St. Valentine, numerous chocolates, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones all around the world. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, deciding on a unique and special gift to buy your loved one can create a dilemma. With hype and commercialism making many gifts seem trivial, instead this year consider a special gift that will not only express your feelings but also improve the life of another.

For centuries the rose has been a gift that speaks of love wordlessly, in the language of the heart and soul; if you are looking for a Valentine’s Day gift that will speak to the heart, bloom for far longer than a week and also help a child in need, then the ‘SOS Children’s Rose’ will make the perfect gift this Valentine’s Day. This rose was created by Ludwig’s Roses especially for the SOS Children’s Villages Association of South Africa as a means of generating funds. Your purchase of the ‘SOS Children’s Rose’ sees a percentage going directly to the children. SOS provides essential services and care to over 5 000 children, with 976 beneficiaries within their Long Term Family Based Care programme and 4237 within the Family Strengthening Programme.

The ‘SOS Children’s Rose’ is a unique rose, as each bloom on the bush seems to be a different shade. The pretty apricot orange bud opens into a deep tone of golden red with pale gold flecks in the petals, which ages into a glowing blend of pinks. Amazingly the rose bushes are known to blossom for a full season ensuring your gift provides pleasure all summer long.

The SOS rose is available at Ludwig’s Roses in Pretoria and Johannesburg and all major nurseries countrywide. Last year Ludwig’s Roses donated over R5000 to SOS Children’s Villages through the sale of these beautiful roses.
