Johannesburg loves it’s drinking and with St Patricks day just around the corner (click for a cool countdown) I’ve been asking people if they have any ideas for things to do on the night but so far I’ve got nothing! I know we are mostly not Irish, and most of us don’t have a clue why it’s celbrated but it’s a great excuse to party and thats why I’ve made it my mission to give us all a reason to get out and in the mood for a big one on St Paddy’s this year!
History – The boring stuff
- St Patricks Day is celebrated to commemorate Saint Patrick, one of the patron Saints of Ireland.
- St Paddy’s was made an official celebration in the early seventeenth century
- People often associate St PAddy’s with drinking because the celebration falls during Lent and allowed for the breaking of the usual Lenten restrictions (food and drink)
Thanks to Wiki for this cool info
