Teremok Review

I lead a pretty charmed life; it comes with my amazing job. Invitations pop up all the time to attend the opening of this and the launch of that, I feel like quite the celebrity. One can get quite blasé. When the opportunity arose to do a review at Teremok Riverside, I must confess that I thought to myself, “This will be like any other establishment that claims to be a five star.”

I am delighted to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Teremok lives up to each and every one of its stars.

For those Joburg.co.za readers who are not following the droves down the sunny beaches of our beautiful country, spoil yourself this festive season and take up one of two wonderful special offers from Teremok Riverside.

During the months of December 2008 and January 2009, Teremok Riverside is offering two specials. The Ultimate Urban Escape invites you to spend three nights at a cost of R5 000 per couple – pay for two nights and get the third one free. To speed up the relaxation process, a one hour massage per person is also included. This package is valued at R8 160, which equates to a saving of R3 160. For those going it alone, the cost is R3 300 instead of R5 280 for three nights single accommodation and an hour massage.

The One Night Wonder special includes a night’s accommodation and a one hour massage per person. The cost for a double room is R2 000 (save a whopping R1160) or R1 300 single (discounted by R680). All accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis.

Just a 20 minute drive on a Friday through to this private retreat getaway is all it takes to feel completely rejuvenated on Monday morning. Teremok means “little hideaway” and that it is. Regally situated on the sparkling banks of the Jukskei River, visitors to this magnificent location feel as if they’ve arrived in the heart of Sabi-Sabi. I cannot explain to you the breath taking view I had from my gorgeously decorated room.

Oozing with eclectic style, Teremok is not your regular lodge. The sound of flowing water radiates throughout the hotel which is built around lush atriums and flowing water features

There is a very personal touch to the lodge. On each wall hang the pictures of the founding family through the years. There is a level of comfort and personal touch that makes you feel right at home. The personal touch even extends to an art corner. I took full advantage of the paints, pencils and paper as I explored the true artist inside.

I stayed in the Jukskei, which is a spacious and luscious room, themed around botanical inspiration from the Jukskei River itself. What I loved the most about the room was not actually inside the room, but out on the large balcony. A comfortable sun bed, strategically positioned on the balcony that overlooks the river, draped in a cozy faux fur throw and voluptuous cushions. I spent my Friday night with a glass of wine enjoying the tranquility of the water and the sound of nature. What a life!

Wellness Boutique and Treatments
I was completely spoiled. I got to experience a message unique to Teremok Riverside. The Wellness boutique offers territorial massages, these are specialised massage techniques, beneficial to the body and spirit, have been based on four exciting countries, using specially blended oils associated with the specific country.

I enjoyed every moment of the Moroccan massage which is a heat based treatment. Inspired by the ritual of Hammam, this is a massage that purifies the skin, relieving stresses and muscle and joint tension. It is an invigorating and pampering session for the body and spirit. Accessories include Aragan Massage Oil for a regenerating massage, enriched in Patchouli essential oils for the relief of tension; and a Mhakka which helps purify the skin.

If you have the inclination to but not the time to plan a getaway, then Teremok Riverside has made it ridiculously easy.

The award-winning five star boutique lodge is situated in the Fourways area, which means you’re saved a tedious drive. Nestled in an urban environment, you will have a truly African bush experience.

What we think…
You’d be silly not to take up this fantastic offer. I wish my review had been extended to another two nights. The Teremok staff are friendly and very helpful, making your stay there, tranquil and relaxing.
