Ah, autumn … the season when we’re inundated with a slew of divine new fragrances. If it seems like there are more and more scents coming out each year than the previous, that’s because there are. And, I don’t know about you, but we’re feeling rather fatigued by all the choices!
We feel as if the volume, combined with the same-y-ness of most of what’s out there (just about everything seems to have a fruity floral base nowadays, right?), makes finding something truly special or unique extra-challenging.
On that note, we’re sharing our top fragrance picks for the autumn ahead with you. Each one is in some way captivating, unusual or just non-basic. Smelling gorgeous has never been easier!
Narciso Eau de Toilette by Narciso Rodriguez
If you’ve ever bought a perfume just for its nifty bottle or packaging, raise your hand. Okay, so it’s not just us (phew!). But Narciso not only looks fabulous, it smells amazing, too! Think intense floral, soft woods and skin-like musks. And then, just when you think it can’t possibly get any better than that, in comes earthy, vetiver and a little dirty. This fragrance is sexy without being overpowering.
Pamplemousse Rhubarbe by L’Occitane x Pierre Herme
Some ladies steer completely clear of grapefruit scents because they’re too sporty. If this sounds like you, trust us when we say you’ll want to give this one a sniff – it takes grapefruit’s bitterness and softens it with cedar and lavender. Rhubarb and clove then help bring it further out of typical cologne territory, making for one bracing but at the same time ever-so-sensual scent.
Omnia Paraiba by Bvlgari
We don’t know about you, but around this time of year, we start fantasising about what tropical destination we want to escape to once the weather starts to get really slushy and gross. Oh, you do, too? To make those beachy daydreams more vivid, turn to a sparkly floral, citrusy scent like this one. Instead of being sickly-sweet on the skin, it has vetiver and cocoa mean to cut out the fruit punch sensation, allowing for a soft, powdery, almost woody scent.
The PinkPrint by Nicki Minaj
If you’re a fan of Nicki’s six previous fragrances, you’ll know that half the fun is seeing what the bottle will look like. Will it be a miniature bust of the star herself with a fab hairstyle or cap? Or, will it be adorned with an even more fabulous bustier situation? But don’t ignore what’s inside… this time, the scent is a gorgeous blend of coconut, sweet citrus and frangipani. The tropical vibes are strong, but if that’s your thing, you’ll love this fragrance.
Noir Pour Femme by Tom Ford
The original version of this mesmerising spicy and citrusy scent was created for men, but since so many women started wearing it, the company decided to tweak the formula a bit to make it more feminine. With the addition of a sweet pistachio note and loads of amber, this scent is very potent (so tread lightly) but wonderfully charming. The inspiration behind it? Kulfi, a frozen dessert popular in India. How divine?
Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent
The original version is one iconic scent of note (spicy, incense-y and jasmine-y)… but many ladies find it too strong on their skin (us included). In that case, you may want to try this lovely, much sweeter iteration. This scent presents a warm, sugar vibe and is less smoky than its predecessor. So what’s the new note? Coffee! Yup… it’s energising and uplifting, just like a shot of espresso. For us, this is the ideal pre-party pick-me-up.
