The Joburg Comedy Cartel will once again deliver their intelligent and riotously funny brand of stand-up at Houghtons Foxwood Theatre on Friday, 4th May. This time they have invited special guests: Dale Amler and The Godfather, Mel Miller.
For over forty years Mel Miller has been stepping on toes and prodding sacred cows. And he is not going to stop any time soon. His legendary status in the South African comedy industry was confirmed when he walked away with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Comics Choice Awards. In his career he has raised the ire of politicians, the Apartheid police and just about anyone who is in the news. With unflinching conviction and acerbic wit, Mel Miller never fails to bring the house down.
One of the smartest comics around (hes been asked to give talks at MENSA events twice), Vittorio Leonardi is also one of the most amiable. Whether he is telling us why he is unlucky in love or chatting about life in his hometown of Welkom, you cant help but like him. He has written scripts for a number of popular television shows and is preparing for his one-man show in Grahamstown, aptly named Vittorios Secret.
Dale Amler reached a compromise with his parents who insisted that he pursue a career in comedy despite his dreams of becoming an accountant. In just a few years Dale has toured South Africa, worked in UK comedy venues and performed You sit, Ill stand, his debut solo show at Grahamstown. His material ranges from the dark to dry and is often left-of-centre. He has previously worked with 94.7 as their Fugitive.
Shaun Wewege found early on that stand-up comedy was the perfect career for him, not just because he enjoys pubs, but because as a ginger he needs to avoid the outdoors. Hes a bit weird, socially inept and pale but a trip into his slightly warped mind is always funny (if not a bit disturbing).
