Top 10 Pasta Spots In Joburg

So I went in search of the best places in Joburg to grab a great pasta dish when the craving strikes!

Pasta

Piatto Restaurant and Grill  Cresta

This has to be mine and my boyfriend’s favourite spot after doing a little shopping at Cresta. We are here all the time, and all I can say is that I can’t get enough of their pasta! I always get stuck between having either the Chicken and Mushroom Lasagne or the Linguine Calamari (linguine tossed with garlic, chilli, paprika, napoli sauce topped with grilled marinated calamari tubes).

Maximillien Restaurant  Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton

For some Mediterranean flair and great food, Maximillien is the place to be! They have a small selection of pasta dishes to choose from, but the options all sound so delicious, you won’t know which one to order! I definitely love their Penne Pollo  mild spiced chicken and roasted peppers in a creamy tomato sauce!

Café De Sol  Olivedale

What I love about Café De Sol is that they have a great selection of pasta dishes. Whether you are looking for something traditional or something a little different, they have something for everyone! I couldn’t pass up on my all time favourite Alfredo (gypsy ham and mushrooms cooked in a fresh garlic and cream sauce). But next time, I am definitely planning on trying out the Porcini Whisky  Porcini mushrooms flambéed in Jack Daniel’s and sautéed with fresh garlic and parsley, a dash of cream and a touch of turmeric!

Piza-e-Vino – Melrose Arch, The Zone, Morningside

Piza-e-Vino is the perfect place if you are looking for delicious pizzas and tasty pasta dishes! I will definitely have their Salsiccia again – Dargle Valley salsiccia, pork ragu, chilli, cream and roasted peppers. If that’s not up your alley, the Oxtail Ragout sounds like a winner – braised oxtail and herbs in a rich tomato sauce with lots of grana pandano!

La Cucinadi Ciro – Parktown North

If you are looking for a fine dining experience and great Mediterranean cross Italian cuisine, La Cucinadi Ciro is a great option. Though a bit pricey, the food is divine and perfect if you are looking to impress someone on a date! I loved the Butternut Gnocchi (with julienne of chicken breast, tomato concasse, and wild mushrooms in a sherry and cream sauce). And be sure to keep an eye out for their Moonlight Dinners!

Luigi’s Pizzeria – Olivedale and Boskruin

Luigi’s definitely has some of the best pizza and pasta I have ever tasted! So if you are looking for a spot to grab some yummy Italian, this is it! There is a great selection to choose from, all served in generous portions that will not break the bank. The Fettuccine Mafiosa is a winner in my books! Chicken livers, finely chopped onion, chilli, herbs and spices and wine in a napoletana sauce.

Da Vincenzo  Kyalami

For an authentic Italian country restaurant experience, make a reservation at the Da Vincenzo Restaurant. Great pastas, great pizza and definitely a great atmosphere. There is something for everyone. Definitely worth a try is the Marsala e Vitello – strips of veal and mushrooms in a creamy Napoletana sauce with sweet marsala wine.

Fumo – Groenkloof, Pretoria

Staying true to the Italian heritage, Fumo offers you authentic Italian cuisine that will leave you coming back for more! Since I love my classic pasta dishes, I decided to try out the Rigatoni Mamma Mia when I was taken here on a date once, and it was so great, I polished the plate! Rigatoni pasta served with beef meatballs which had been prepared Neapolitan style.

Europa

Everyone has been to an Europa at least once before! I visit Europa often, but only for one reason … I just can’t seem to get enough of their Montanara pasta dish – a creamy Napoletana sauce with bacon, mushroom and chicken strips. But other than my favourite, they have a great selection of traditional and unique pasta dishes that all sound divine!

Villa San Giovanni – Wonderboom Airport, Pretoria

With homemade pasta and traditional dishes, Villa San Giovanni offers you some of the best pasta and pizzas in town. There pasta dishes are all hearty and bursting with flavour. I couldn’t get enough of the Penne Salmone – salmon pan grilled with onions, peas and vodka topped with cream. I wish it never came to an end!
