Red velvet cake and cupcakes are signature treats at the elegant little spot that is Belles Patisserie. What’s more is they even offer a “skinny” version for those who are watching their waistline, and we can assure you that they taste just as delectable as the real deal.

A well-loved Sandton establishment, Walnut Grove is home to some of the very best bakes in our city – and their delicious, generous slices of red velvet cake are no exception. Accompanied by a tall chai latte, it’s the ultimate sweet tooth fix – in our opinion, at least.
Where: Sandton City Shopping Centre, corner of Sandton Drive & Alice Lane, Sandton, Johannesburg.
The Secret Tea Garden
The Secret Tea Garden offers diners a lovely, relaxed garden setting in which they can tuck into a fresh slice of red velvet cake, perhaps with one of their perfect iced coffees on the side. It’s the perfect spot for girl time or a lengthy catch up!

From the minute you step inside Fournos Bakery in Dunkeld, you’re sure to be mesmerised by all of the drool-worthy sweet treats on display, which can be pretty overwhelming. But let us assure you that you can never go wrong with their dreamy red velvet cupcakes, that are perfectly bite-sized.
Where: Corner of Jan Smuts Avenue & Bompas Road, Dunkeld, Johannesburg.
Voodoo Lily Café
A cosy, cutesy little place, Voodoo Lily Café is a great lunchtime option – especially when your meal is finished off on a sweet note with a slice of their freshly baked red velvet cake. We warn that the slices are rather generous, so you may want to share (or not!).
Where: 64 St Andrew Street & Wrenrose Avenue, Birdhaven, Johannesburg.
Nestled away in Melrose Arch is Roast Café; a cake lover’s heaven. While they have loads of different options to choose from, one of their best remains the trusty red velvet. Here, too, the pieces are gigantic, so be prepared for a sugar rush of note.
Where: 10A High Street, Melrose Arch, Melrose, Johannesburg.
You may know Wolves best for their top-notch coffee, but let us assure you that their cakes are equally impressive. More specifically, their red velvet cake. Generously topped with a near perfect cream cheese icing, it’s the ultimate indulgence!
Where: 3 Corlett Drive, Illovo, Johannesburg.
Tucked away in the Post Office Centre in Illovo, you’ll find a charming little spot by the name of The Patisserie. While all of their sweet treats are simply to-die-for, their red velvet cupcakes are one of the first things you’ll want to try. They’re ever so moreish. That’s all we’ll say.
Where: Post Office Centre, 30 Rudd Road, Illovo, Johannesburg.
Most people associate Vovo Telo mainly with quick breakfasts and great coffee, but our top reason to visit this little Parkhurst establishment is for their red velvet cake and that only. Generously sized, each slice is a real treat, and best enjoyed with a frosty freezochino.
Where: 4th Avenue, Parkhurst, Johannesburg.
Château Gâteaux Patisserie
Yet another cake lover’s paradise on our list, Château Gâteaux Patisserie offers diners just about every cake under the sun. However, the best by far, in our opinion, at least, is their red velvet slice. They have cute little cupcake version on offer, too, which are just as delectable, we might add.
