Melville Koppies Heritage Day Hike

Why not spend your Heritage Day hiking across the Melville Koppies? Admire the stunning scenery while you get your heart pumping! Bring a bunch of friends along or take the whole family … this is something everyone can enjoy! The hike will take three hours so don’t forget to pack snacks and plenty of water.

When: Thursday, 24 September 2015 from 08:30.

Where: Meet at Marks Park, Judith Road, Emmarentia, Johannesburg.

How much: R50 for adults and R20 for kids over the age of six.

Heritage Day Tour To Cullinan And Sammy Marks House

This Heritage Day event is really something special. Meet at the Sunnyside Park Hotel and hop on a bus to Cullinan and Sammy Marks House! You will be taken around the historical village, stopping at the Anglican Church. You will also be taken on The Journey of a Diamond, which will take you to the Kimberly Hole and the spot where The Cullinan Diamond was found.

We don’t want to reveal too much but it’s going to be a great day out! You’re welcome to bring your own picnic lunch or buy lunch at one of the surrounding restaurants.

When: Thursday, 24 September 2015 at 08:00 (make sure to arrive 30 minutes before departure). The bus will arrive back at the Sunnyside Park Hotel between 17:30 and 18:00.

Where: Meet at the Sunnyside Park Hotel, Princess of Wales Terrace, Johannesburg.

How much: The tour will cost R400 per person.

Stonehaven On Vaal

It wouldn’t be Braai Day without a braai, right? You’ll be able to enjoy a delicious traditional South African meal to celebrate your heritage – chow down on Cape Malay, Afrikaans, Zulu, English, Indian, Chinese food … or a bit of everything!

There will be plenty of fun to be had for all – don’t forget to take advantage of the kiddies area so that you can relax while your little ones are kept entertained with tree houses, a swimming pool and a trampoline!

When: Thursday, 24 September.

Where: Stonehaven on Vaal, next to Baddrift Bridge, Sylviavale AH, Vaal River, Vanderbijlpark.

Zebra Country Lodge

Foodies and braai lovers, take a scenic drive down to Cullinan this public holiday … it’s only a stone’s throw away from Pretoria, which isn’t too far at all! Indulge in the express spa treatment station, get busy at the craft stalls and enjoy a live performance from an up-and-coming band.

For the kids, there will be jumping castles and face painting. There will also be a potjiekos competition for the competitive folks out there, so it’s safe to say that there will be lots going on!

How much: Entrance is free if you only want to attend the braai day. If you want to enter the competition, it’ll be R1 000 per team of five. Entry includes a potjie pot, basic ingredients, firewood, charcoal and aprons.

When is it: Thursday, 24 September from 08:00.

Where is it: Zebra Country Lodge, Cullinan.

Dash Festival National Braai Day

This is a festival that will be a whole lot of fun for the whole family! Expect to come across a beer tent, a butchery, a dedicated kiddies entertainment area and live music, to ensure that everyone is kept busy and happy. It’ll certainly be worth the drive so round up your family and head on over … just make sure to come hungry!

When is it: Thursday, 24 September 2015 from 09:00.
