Our city is blessed with many picturesque golf courses, and while it’s tough to pick out only a handful of them, we’ve put together a list of some of the best courses to visit.
The next time you’d like to enjoy a game of golf with friends (or even business partners… yes, we’ve heard it’s good for business ‘meetings’), be sure to check out some of the courses below.
1. Randpark Golf Club
This beautiful golf course is located in Randburg, and is home to the elegant Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. If that’s not enough to get you excited, Randpark Golf Club has three courses to choose from – Firethorn, Bushwillow and Creek 9, as well as a driving range for you to practice your swing.
The next time you decide to play a round or two of golf with friends, be sure to check out Randpark – they’ve even got a Golf Shop for all your equipment, accessory and clothing needs.
2. Eye Of Africa Golf & Residential Estate
If you’re in the South of Joburg, take a drive to Eye of Africa. This estate boats an awesome Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course, and you can also take advantage of their putting green and driving range. Just remember to make a booking first – they’re open from Tuesdays to Sundays.
On a side note, the Eye of Africa golf course recently went through a revamp, so grab your clubs and get ready to check out the new and improved look!
3. Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club
As far as golfing history goes, the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club definitely has a story to tell. Plus, the course, as it stands now, is stunning! The club welcomes both day visitors and members and, like many other courses, allows you the option of either playing nine holes or all 18.
While you’re there, visit their Golf Shop for all your sporting needs, or pop into the super sophisticated Royal Dining Room for a bite to eat – walking the course can truly work up an appetite.
4. Jackal Creek Golf Estate
The Jackal Creek golf course is found on a modern estate and offers up an exciting 18-hole golfing experience. There are also winding fairways and smartly-placed bunkers to challenge you, and to make the game more interesting. You should definitely add this course to your list of must-tries.
If you’re still a novice, or if you’d like to improve your game, Jackal Creek offers an academy whereby you can experience one-on-one training or learn with a group of friends.
5. The Bryanston Country Club
In the heart of one of Johannesburg’s most charming suburbs lies The Bryanston Country Club – it boasts an 18-hole golf course that’s about 6 768 meters long, complete with several water obstacles to keep things interesting. The lovely, natural foliage and birdlife will almost make you forget that you’re still in the city!
You can play as a day visitor or sign up to be a member of the club. BCC also has a Golf Academy and a Pro Shop, as well as other activities to keep the family entertained, while you become one with the course.
6. Glenvista Country Club
Another great golf course to check out in Johannesburg South would be Glenvista Country Club. Each of the 18 holes offers a different sort of challenge (you can find out more about each hole on the website) and the course is open to visitors as well as members.
They also have a Pro Shop for anything and everything that you could need. Surrounded by hills and natural, open spaces, this golf course is certainly worth a visit.
A Special Mention:
7. World Of Golf
Practice, practice, practice – it’s the mantra of most, if not all, sportsmen and women. The World of Golf offers a great practice space and puts you in almost any scenario that you will encounter on the course. Also, be sure to check out the Gary Player Golf Fitness Centre while you’re there.
From a Wedge & Putt area to their World of Bunkers and World of Chipping courses, you can improve your game, and learn how to best deal with any situation you find yourself in.
