When Halloween comes around, a lot of people say things like ‘this isn’t America’ and ‘who celebrates that here anyway?’ but, truth be told, we here in sunny South Africa will use any excuse to party, right? Halloween is coming up soon and with that comes an influx of themed events (they’re not all parties!). Dia De Los Muertos – Carfax

Carfax will come to life (see what we did there?) with their Dia de los Muertos-themed Halloween bash (that’s the Mexican Day of the Dead, by the way). They would like you to dress up like the dead so be creative when getting your costume sorted out! Think along the lines of sugar skulls … you get the vibe? So far, they’ve announced these acts: Hellcats, Rambling Bones and Gunshot Blue. More to be announced soon!

Truth Presents: Halloween Ball

Truth always hosts a banger of a party when Halloween comes around and, rest assured, 2015 will be no different! Their lineup is looking pretty awesome with Purple Disco, Alex M.O.R.P.H and FlexB on the international front. Brace yourselves … as they’ve said, ‘something wicked this way comes’ so get all dressed up and head to Midrand for a night you won’t soon forget.

Halloween 2015 – PTA

Arcade Empire and Griet are teaming up to bring a mad Halloween party to their huge P-town based venue. Head to Pretoria on Saturday night and expect four stages, five bars, 20 (yes, 20) acts, a photo booth, amazing décor and more! If you’re not sure what to wear, they’ve said to come as you aren’t … so get those creative juices flowing and think out of the box. On the lineup, catch Shortstraw, Bittereinder, Zebra & Giraffe, Black Cat Bones and so many more!

Halloween @ Sundowners

A band-filled Halloween is what awaits at Sundowners. Entrance is cheaper for those of you who dress up so be sure to make an effort if you want to spend Hallow’s Eve at Sundowners. Expect to be entertained by a whole lot of bands, with Fuzigish, Facing the Gallows, Man as Machine and The Burning Society set for the stage. It’s going to be a crazy night out!

Horrific Halloween

An alternative ‘80s party is going down at Horrific Halloween! This one will be a throwback to the good old party days in Joburg, which means you’ll be singing along to alternative classics all night long! If you need a little more convincing, this is also a party for a good cause – bring donations of dog food or cash to help the homeless dogs out there. How could you say no to that?

Twilight Open Air Festival V8.0

For all the trance fest lovers out there, spend Halloween weekend stomping along with some stellar acts at the Vaal. That’s right, Twilight is back for their Halloween edition and it promises to be a goodie! They’ve got artists from Chile and Holland as well as three stages: psychedelic trance, drum and bass, and techno. So no matter your musical preference, you’ll be catered for! Don’t forget to pack a sleeping bag and tent – Twilight is a two-day event.

Halloween Walk

Get all dressed up because this Halloween Walk is a competition! Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed girl, boy, adult and dog … so get the whole family involved! Expect entertainment, music and plenty of fun stuff to do before the walk starts. There will be food and drink stalls but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic basket.

Looks That Kill – A Halloween Burlesque Spooktacular

A burlesque Halloween show is going down at The Brazen Head … which means you should get ready for a super-sensual show with a spooky twist! This is definitely a different way to spend Halloween – and we mean that in a good way!

A Haunting On Hurlingham

A Haunting on Hurlingham promises the scariest night of your life this Halloween! The party is being held in a 100-year-old haunted house so you’re in for a scare … we don’t want to give too much away but there will be a graveyard, complete with open graves, tombstones and bodies hanging from trees! Don’t forget to dress up for this one – the best dressed Halloween King and Queen will win a R500 bar tab! If you’re wondering who will be responsible for the music, it’ll be none other than Das Kapital, Timo ODV, Veranda Panda and more!

Tricks And Treats At Hamley’s

Why not celebrate the spooky season at Hamley’s? The kids will love putting on their best and checking out this super-awesome toy store! Plus, they could win prizes if they get all dressed up! There will even be face painters in store to transform your kids into ghosts and ghouls.

Brightwater Halloween

Brightwater Commons will be transformed into a house of horrors this Halloween! Expect all kinds of spookiness and live entertainment to keep you occupied throughout. Kids will be able to trick or treat throughout the centre, there will be a magic show, a flying witch violin show and so much more. Get ready – it’s going to be an action-packed day out!

The Joburg Zoo will be celebrating Halloween with a fun, kid-friendly event! For the third year running, the Zoo will join forces with Nickelodeon, which means that Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer and more will celebrate the spooky holiday too! Be sure to get all dressed up in your scariest gear and pack your picnic baskets with delicious treats!

The best-dressed kids will win prizes. Those that are worried about missing the rugby, don’t worry – Café Fino will have delicious How’loween food for the family to enjoy, and rugby fans will be able to watch the final of the Rugby World Cup on the big screen. It’s a win for all!

Where: Joburg Zoo. Use the Military Musuem, Erlswold Way and Saxonworld Primary as parking. Shuttles will be available from Saxonworld Primary and Zoo Lake.
