Top Places To Go In Maboneng

If you find yourself in Maboneng, you may feel overwhelmed at the amount of things there are to do in the area. There’s just so much going on (especially on a Sunday) that we thought we’d round up the best things to do in the area. Warning: A lot of them involve eating so arrive hungry.

Maboneng

Market On Main

The most obvious attraction when you head to Maboneng is to visit Market on Main – this is for good reason, so don’t look away. If you’ve yet to pay them a visit, what are you waiting for? The market goes down every Sunday from 10:00-15:00 and is filled to the brim with all kinds of goodies you’ll want to eat and take home with you – from Ethiopian food and cakes in jars to stunning jewellery and unique vintage clothing, they’ve got it all.

Yogiberry

It might sound like a weird combo at first but the curry and frozen yoghurt that Yogiberry serves is definitely well thought out. You know when you eat spicy food and need something to cool your mouth down afterwards? Well, why not let that coolness come from your dessert? Firstly, the curries here are delicious. Secondly, the fro-yo is all-natural and contains no nasties – they blend your choice of topping (okay, you could choose a not-so-healthy one but that’s okay) and yoghurt up right before your eyes. No pre-made, weirdly-coloured frozen yoghurt here, only the good stuff. Yum!

Address: 264 Fox Street, Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg.

The Living Room

The Living Room is a rooftop bar and café that serves up healthy food and has regular Sunday gatherings. Pop in and enjoy the smooth sounds of a DJ while you sip on a cocktail and take in the amazing city views! You’re bound to meet some interesting characters atop this roof so head on over and get some dancing in.

Address: 20 Kruger Street, Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg.

Pretty rad, right? The chairs are repurposed car seats so get comfy and settle in for a great film. You can also bring food and drinks into the cinema from Chalkboard Café, which is just next-door.
