A la Bouffe

In the up-and-coming restaurant district of Linden, you’ll find A la Bouffe; an authentic French eatery that’s sure to delight you. The intimate atmosphere paired with their unique menu makes for a memorable meal each and every time. Try the Toulouse sausages or poached duck egg if you’re feeling extra adventurous – you won’t regret it.

Where: 32 7th Street, Linden, Johannesburg.

Perron
If you didn’t already know, Perron has opened its doors in a second location, Hobart Grove Centre. Here, you can expect all of the same tantalising tacos, super-stuffed burritos and moreish churros, as well as a fresher, even trendier setting. The breezy open-air section is a great space for a birthday dinner, date night or just dinner out with friends or family.

Where: Hobart Grove Centre, corner of Hobart & Grosvenor Roads, Bryanston, Johannesburg.

Assaggi

That’s right – Assaggi is back! Now under new management and offering up dishes better than ever before; this is the perfect spot for a hearty lunch or an intimate date night. The pastas are world-class, and the desserts are something totally different but at the same time oh-so-dreamy. End your meal off with either the Crema Catalana or Zuccotto Al Mascarpone – trust us.

Where: Post Office Centre, 30 Rudd Road, Illovo, Johannesburg.

Wombles

This spot may have been around for a good couple of years, but we thought we’d add it to the list anyway – it’s the perfect place to warm up with a fragrant meat dish or a comforting bowl of ravioli this chilly season. Plus, Wombles is relocating to Hobart Grove Centre later this month, so best tuck into their lovely colonial-style restaurant in Parktown North while it’s still around.

Where: 17 3rd Avenue, Parktown North, Johannesburg.

Licorish Bistro

If you’re yet to visit Licorish Bistro, best add it to your list of places to-eat-at right away. Offering up top-notch meat, poultry and fish dishes, as well as a variety of “street food”, this hip and happening spot deserves all the praise that it gets. Outstanding food, a great vibe, friendly service – what more could you ask for? Try it out for a special occasion!

Where: Nicolway Shopping Centre, corner of Wedgewood Link & William Nicol Drive, Bryanston, Johannesburg.

The Hussar Grill

They might’ve had a couple of teething issues when they opened late last year, but you can trust that trendy Hussar Grill is now running smoothly as ever, not to mention dishing up some of the tastiest steaks in town! The perfect spot to indulge in a bottle of red wine and a meaty feast, pop in for lunch or dinner – it’s sure to impress.

Where: Morningside Shopping Centre, corner of Outspan & Rivonia Roads, Morningside, Johannesburg.

Café Del Sol Classico

Another oldie, this one too is a goodie! At this homey spot, you can tuck into some seriously drool worthy pastas. We highly recommend their ravioli of the day and the beef fillet pasta; both of which never disappoint. Finish off the meal with the Mamma’s Pavlova and you’ve had yourself the ultimate indulgence. Just be sure to book well in advance – they’re super popular right now!

Where: Olivedale Corner Shopping Centre, corner of President Fouche Drive & Olive Road, Olivedale, Johannesburg.

El Jalapeno

Another Linden gem, El Jalapeno is a brand new Mexican joint that’s serving up some of the tastiest South of the Border food around! With some very authentic items on their mouthwatering menu, here you can treat yourself to a true Mexican fiesta. Oh, and be sure not to leave without trying one of their shaken margaritas. Seriously – they’re life-changing.

Where: Corner of 4th Avenue & 7th Street, Linden, Johannesburg.

Grain Food & Wood

If you’re picky about what you put on your plate, you’ll just love Grain Food & Wood! Serving up dishes with a healthy flair made from only the best organic ingredients, you’ll find it hard to believe that healthy food can taste this good. Their grilled cheese on beetroot bread is a standout, and their full English breakfast is a winner, too.

Where: Common Ground Park, 2 Van Beek Street, Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg.

Love Fish

Calling all sushi lovers! At Love Fish, you can enjoy some of the freshest, most flavourful fishy fare in town. They’ve got all the classics, like California rolls and fashion sandwiches, as well as more interesting rolls, like the Sakura Roll and Strawberry Roll. We’ve also got to admit that their ice cream is out of this world, and we may be just a little addicted to the salted caramel popcorn flavour.

Where: Morningside Shopping Centre, corner of Outspan & Rivonia Roads, Morningside, Johannesburg.
