If you feel like heading outdoors for the day, then take a fascinating trip to the Tswaing Meteorite Crater about 40kms north of Pretoria. This is one of the best-preserved meteorite craters in the world that originated some 220 000 years ago when a blazing stony meteorite (the size of half a football field) slammed into the earth’s crust. The impact formed a huge crater, 1.4 km in diameter and 200m deep! The site is open seven days a week from 7.30am – 4pm and guided tours are available on request. You are encouraged to walk to the site, but guided donkey trips are also on offer for R100 per person!
