Tweefontein Stables, on the Kromdraai Road, in the heart of The Cradle of Humankind WHS,
is less than forty minutes away from Sandton, Pretoria and Krugersdorp, and fifteen minutes from
Lanseria Airport. The Cradle Restaurant is a ten minute drive away.
Experienced and qualified guides lead all horse trails. No previous riding
experience is required and all necessary equipment is provided. There is secure parking.
Light refreshments and a picnic area are available to trail riders.
The Cradle Nature Reserve Trails
Different trails, of between two and three hours duration, are offered. The trails lead
through grassland and riverine forest with panoramic views north towards the
Magaliesberg and the Witwatersrand to the south. A wide variety of bird species
inhabit the reserve and game species include rhino, giraffe, eland, kudu, wildebeest,
impala, blesbok, gemsbok, zebra and waterbuck. Interesting heritage and geological
sites are also seen from horseback.
Trail riding in The Cradle Nature Reserve & Grassland Trails
The trails vary from one to three hours in length and are ideal for novices and
experienced riders alike. The trails meander through riverine forest and out onto wide
expances of Highveld grassland and along streams and past dams inhabited by a wide
variety of waterfowl. From the high ground there are panoramic views of the Witwatersrand.
