Want to experience the best of South African Wine Estates… but on the banks of the Vaal River? Then treat yourself to the popular annual Vaal River Meander Wine Route which provides pleasant and charming relief during the dull winter months of July and August.

Thirteen different venues on and around the banks of the Vaal River have been selected to showcase the wines from 30 premier South African Wine Estates. The venues are diverse, fun and interesting and provide for all different tastes, budgets and preferences. Fancy the relaxed ambience of a country inn with dishes freshly prepared from local produce? Or sipping wine on the verandah of a 5-star hotel overlooking the Vaal River? You might prefer sitting in front of a roaring fireplace in a cosy River Pub with hearty farm-style helpings of country fair. How about a wine tasting aboard one of the Cruisers on a mellow winters day? You have the option of enjoying the Wine Route by car, bus, cruiser, houseboat, or by limo.

A great way to break the winter blues with your family, friends or company is a relaxing meander around the Vaal River, where you can enjoy well-priced tastings of excellent wines at only R20.00 for tastings of 8 different wines. If you really enjoy a certain tasting, bottles of wine can be purchased to take away with you for the excellent promotional price of cost plus 10%.

Besides experiencing excellent Estates wine at different venues, there is lots of local entertainment for the whole family to look forward to. This includes game drives, a river cruise or dining on a cruiser, a game of golf, fun at a warm indoor water world, ten pin bowling, children’s entertainment, craft shopping, or maybe trying your hand at lady luck at Emerald Casino. There is just so much to do, perhaps make a weekend of it to fit it all in!

This year, the character meander is on every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday,18th of July until Sunday, 23rd of August 2009. The venues will open from 12h00 until 18h00. The route is easily accessible with little to no traffic involved and only 45-minutes from Johannesburg.
