Hi there,

I have come to the startling realisation that boxing is the new Book Club, except that the guys can come with. (If they behave themselves and stop leaving wet towels on the floor.) It is just the most heart-wrenching sport I have ever watched. Except that it has to be seen "live" to be truly appreciated. There I was at Emperors on Saturday night, in tears for the second time that evening, as I watched 20 year old Flo Simba win his bout against Stephen Castle - just two days after his 18 year old brother died of a heart attack. Simba is supposedly the hottest local heavyweight South Africa has seen in years, and the sight of him holding up his hand in victory with tears streaming down his face for his brother that was supposed to walk with him when he made his grand entrance through the crowds, was almost too much for me to bear. If you are keen to attend a boxing event and see what on earth I am going on about, then give some thought to the "Box & Dine" event at Emperors Palace on Tuesday, 30th of March where you can have dinner while you watch some guys beating the living daylights out of each other. I love it!

A few other tips for the week:

  1. There is still time to book for the Real Joburg Theatre Comedy Fest on Thursday, 4th of March. Featuring Marc Lottering and friends, this is going to be hilarious!
  2. Barry Hiltonwill be at the Joburg Theatre this Friday, 5th of March with his “Fresh Catch” show – fans will love this one.
  3. One of my personal favourite comedians, Trevor Noah, will be performing at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City Casino this Saturday, 6th of March. There seems to be a trend happening!
  4. The Emerald Resort & Casino simply must be put on your-places-to-visit-list. They are currently runnning a special offer, exclusive to Joburg readers, that includes both accommodation AND family entertainment at an affordable rate. They will soon be hosting some awesome events including a music festival and wine festival.
  5. Giselle and I visited the new Sutherlands furniture store on Saturday and were both pretty impressed. It is very similar to Wetherleys in many ways but with some stunningly decorated “rooms” that will give you some great ideas. (It’s quite difficult getting to the top floor if you have a pram or wheelchair, so keep that in mind before you go. There are lots of stairs!)
  6. I like the sound of the Urban Market taking place on Saturday, 6th of March in Kyalami. There will be over 130 stalls including the Wild Olive Coffee Shop, artists, Dutch Cheese, Polish sausages, olives, organic vegetables, honey, Low GI food, books, and a jumping castle/ pony rides for the kids.
I am always going on about the fact that insurance companies need to offer us something a little different if they want our business (cheap is not always better). So 1st for Women sent me details of the fact that 1st for Women's home contents insurance includes cover for vet's expenses, so you can get your friend back on his or her feet again if they are hurt in a road accident. This week Al Prodgers tells us how he plans to beat the aging process. Hilarious! Also Tracy Gold's New Season, New You makeover workshop on Saturday 13th March is fully booked - but don't despair - a second workshop has been scheduled for 17th April - click here to book.

Oh, and before I forget, congratulations to all of our winners: Cecile van Aswegen and Leon Robbertse for winning tickets to RAMfest; and Darmisha David who was selected as the winner in the Pampers / living & loving ticket giveaway.

Have an incredible week!
