This year the fourth annual Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2009, at the Johannesburg Zoo.

Walk against breast cancer – join the 2009 Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon and help raise funds and awareness for Bosom Buddies breast cancer support group. You’ll be in good company with special celebrity guest, Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon.

Avon Justine’s iThemba Crusade of Hope is committed to the fight against breast cancer. All funds raised go to breast cancer education and awareness in South Africa. Since 2001, iThemba has raised over R 6 million which has funded several projects; two CANSA mobile units, the iThemba Mobile Educational Unit, Breast Cancer Awareness Nurses Conference and the sponsorship of 14 radiographers to attend the Mammography Course at the University of Johannesburg. iThemba proudly received the Direct Selling Education Foundation’s Vision for Tomorrow Award in both 2008 and 2009. iThemba’s key message is that early detection saves lives.

The iThemba Walkathons will be led by a group of breast cancer survivors from Bosom Buddies wearing their pink Avon survivor sashes. This event is also supported by Reebok, Nine West and Run Walk for Life.

Only pre-registered participants will receive a goodie bag on the day. Walk against breast cancer and you can earn 3 000 Discovery Vitality points if you pre-register online. Activities on the day include; prizes for the best pink walking gear, Kiddies Corner and Toddler Trot, food and display stalls.

Date: Sunday, October 18th 2009
Venue: Johannesburg Zoo, Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkview
Cost: R50 for adults and R30 for children under the age of 12 for 5 km. For the double 10 km lap: R 70 for adults and R 50 for children.
