Buffets On A Budget

Budgets and buffets are words that do not go well together, so we put a best bang for buck list of buffets that won’t break the bank. Read on, and enjoy.

Weekend breakfast buffets at Trumps are the best. Whether you are going for super healthy or full-on boere breakfast, they’ve got the spread for you. It’s not that heavy on the wallet either… and to boot, their coffee can hold its own to the bespoke baristas of Parkhurst. Buffet items range from fresh fruit to pancakes, waffles, bacon (so, so much bacon) and everything in between. There is also a build-your-own-omelette station.

Cedar Lodge

Sunday lunch at Cedar Lodge is what makes travelling to the west worth the trek. Cedar Lodge has built a massive reputation for itself as one of those hidden sushi gems that we come across every once in a while. But the buck does not stop there with this venue. On Sundays they bring out the big guns with all you can eat, soups, salads, carveries, and puddings galore. Their wine selection is quite impressive, with some of the wines being old enough to rent a car. Cedar Lodge is your best bet for a buffet on a budget. As an added bonus, Cedar Lodge also has a Sunday craft market you can check out after lunch.

A best buffets article would not be complete without an all-you-can-eat sushi bar showing its face. One of our favourite places to grab sushi at would be Hokkaido. The sushi bar is named after the second largest island of Japan… interesting fact. But we like it because of the conveyor belt being stuffed with cool stuff, like avo maki, salmon California rolls, fashion sandwiches, and hand rolls. Trust us, you will leave satisfied.

Moyo Zoo Lake

It’s quite interesting. Moyo Zoo Lake made it on to this list because their braai-style buffets are priced pretty well for its quality. The buffets are only available over weekends and are quiet popular. The buffer consists of breads, dips, pickles, portions of braai meats and even the most delicate and decadent deserts in the country… besides, you get to have lunch and have your face painted in lekker African style.

Billy G

At the time of writing, Billy G offers the best price for quality grub on this list. From sticky bbq ribs to hot and cold starters, and a long line of crisp salads. Black, premium and gold Tsogo Sun card holders are eligible for discounts (which you need to ask about in advance… so don’t just order a bunch of stuff and say, “hey that guy from joburg.co.za said I can get 90% off on whatever…”, because that’s not going to work).

Leafy Greens

Sing it from the rooftops! There’s a place that does yummie buffets that’s actually good for you. Leafy Greens is a quiant little cafe situated behind Casalinga in Muldersdrift (well, actually it’s Rietvlei). This eatery offers weekend buffets that boast healthy, hearty and delicious vegan food. From raw vegan wraps to spicy bean curries and pizzas, there’s something to sooth that craving of yours. To boot all of the ingredients used are grown on the premisis and once you’ve stuffed your pretty face you can go for a stroll through the rows and rows of fruit and veg patches.
