Visit Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum

Date: 16 June 2018 (Open from Mon – Sat, 10:00 – 17:00)

Youth Day is the perfect day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on 16 June 1976 by visiting The Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum situated in Orlando West, Soweto. The grounds are so significant because it is the site where the young Hector Pieterson was shot and killed and many other school children wounded after police opened fire on their protest march. Sarafina The Broadway Hit Musical at Joburg Theatre

Date: Thursday, 14 June 2018 – Sunday, 24 June 2018

Sarafina The Broadway Hit Musical is a moving and historically relevant production that should be seen by all South Africans. Based on the film featuring Whoopi Goldberg, the musical, directed by Dr Mbongeni Ngema, is an emotional flashback to the student uprising during apartheid. Hear Yee! Recording Studios 7th Birthday

Date: Saturday, 16 June 2018 at 14:00 – 02:00

Join in at the Hear Yee! Recording Studios 7th Birthday where there will be a bunch of super-awesome bands and amazing DJs celebrating Youth Day. Youth Day 8km Picnic Hike

Date: Saturday, 16 June 2018 from 07:30 – 12:00

Feeling a bit adventurous this Youth Day? The Youth Day 8km Picnic Hike is an 8km hike of steep climbs and descents and one river crossing. After the trek you will enjoy a picnic braai and commemoration for the fallen heroes and heroines of June 16 to celebrate their bravery and commitment to the struggle. Head on over to the Klipriviersberg nature reserve for all the fun.

June 16 History Celebration

Date: Saturday, 16 June 2018 at 12:00

The June 16 History Celebration event taking place at Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers is a great way to celebrate Youth Day with your peers. Expect live performances, speakers, authors, entrepreneurs and, of course, food and comedy. Everyone is welcome and make sure you wear your uniform in solidarity with the youth of 1976.
