Youth Day is the perfect day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on 16 June 1976 by visiting The Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum situated in Orlando West, Soweto. The grounds are so significant because it is the site where the young Hector Pieterson was shot and killed and many other school children wounded after police opened fire on their protest march. Feeling a bit adventurous this Youth Day? The Youth Day 8km Picnic Hike is an 8km hike of steep climbs and descents and one river crossing. After the trek you will enjoy a picnic braai and commemoration for the fallen heroes and heroines of June 16 to celebrate their bravery and commitment to the struggle. Head on over to the Klipriviersberg nature reserve for all the fun.
