2019 is going to be a rocking year for sure! Here’s what’s happening on stage… so far.

Music

Judas Priest

Rock out with metal gods, Judas Priest as they take on SA. Don those leathers as Rob Halford and the band Rocka Rolla you to the halls of Valahala. Priest puns aside, catch the dudes with one of the longest careers in metal music live at the TicketPro Dome for one night only. This show forms part of the band’s Firepower Tour as they promote their 2018 power metal-fueled album of the same name.Tickets go on sale Friday, 28 September 2018 at 09:00.

Lauryn Hill

Multiplatinum artist, Ms. Lauryn Hill, rose to prominence with The Fugees and took the world by storm as a solo artist with her album The Miseducation of Ms Lauryn Hill. Singles including Doo Wop (That Thing) and Everything Is Everything catapulted her into superstardom, ultimately landing her 10 GRAMMY® nominations and five GRAMMY® Award wins. Ms. Hill also raises money and awareness for frontline charity initiatives through touring. A portion of the ticket sales go towards the MLH Fund, which directly contributes support for education, health, agriculture, technology and community-based businesses and development initiatives throughout the diaspora.

Sam Smith – Sold Out

Sam Smith first hit the charts as the featured singer on the duo Disclosure’s 2012 song, Latch, and released his first single, Lay Me Down, soon afterwards. Next, Smith performed the vocals on Naughty Boy’s Bollywood-inspired La La La and the song became an instant number-one single in the UK in 2013. Then came his first EP, Nirvana. In 2014, In The Lonely Hour was released, his heartfelt debut, full-length album, which has sold 13 million copies globally. The album included the smash hit, Stay With Me, a radio staple over the course of the entire year. Smith was nominated for six GRAMMY® Awards and won four, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The Thrill of It All, which has already sold four million copies, sees Smith once again working alongside close friend and long-time collaborator, Jimmy Napes, as well as the likes of Timbaland, Malay, Jason ‘Poo Bear’ Boyd and Stargate. The album also sees him collaborate with unsigned artist, YEBBA for their breathtaking track, No Peace.

Ed Sheeran – Sold Out

Big Concerts announced the musician will be performing at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 23 March and the Cape Town Stadium on 27 March 2019. The star has been described as one of the world’s most successful and talented musical talents, selling-out stadiums across the globe. He sold about 1.1 million tickets in the UK alone during his Divide Tour. He was also announced as the IFPI’s best-selling global recording artist following his third studio album Divide.

Bryan Ferry

Widely regarded as the embodiment of the glamorous and romantic worlds evoked by his songs, Ferry is also lauded as an icon of sartorial and personal cool. A former student of Fine Art, and as involved in the visual aspects of his work as he is in the composition and performance of the music, Bryan Ferry has conceived and directed some of the most original, controversial and critically applauded album sleeve artwork of the last four decades.

Jim Jefferies

Australian stand-up comedian, political commentator, actor, and writer Jim Jefferies is one of the best known names in comedy on the planet. He will be bringing his latest major standup comedy tour, The Night Talker Tour, to South Africa in February 2019 – 20th at Grand Arena in Cape Town and 22nd & 23rd at Teatro, Montecasino in Johannesburg.

Theatre

Sinatra & Me

The Chairman Of The Board, Old Blue Eyes, The Voice, or just plain old Frank Sinatra is music’s greatest icon. In an award winning homage, British actor Richard Shelton is set to ignite the South African stage in 2019 in a dazzling big band international show,Sinatra & Me. Shelton is an award-winning performer and singer and his show comes directly from the West End and Los Angeles. He will be accompanied on stage by local music genuis Adam Howard and his 17-piece Joburg Big Band.

The Sleeping Beauty

An evil curse, a prince’s kiss and the grandest ballet classic of all comes to life when The Sleeping Beauty returns to the Johannesburg stage after an absence of eight years. Joburg Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty will be presented in association with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra from 29 March to 7 April.
